“Why can’t you just tell me about it?” AJ sighed as Meagan shook her head furiously as AJ groaned.
“There is no need to tell you about it okay?” She said quickly side glancing at Joe who was avoiding
her gaze.
“What do you think is going on?” Alex whispered to Alli.
They were sitting outside the door listening intently to their friend’s conversations. So far neither of them had heard Joe say a word; it was AJ and Meagan arguing with each other over something. Alli bit her lip as she looked at Alex and shrugged. They had been sitting outside AJ and Joe’s locker room for almost twenty minutes. In that time, they hadn’t seen a soul pass by the door or even walk near the hall. In the beginning they quietly laughed about it, but now they were worried. They knew tapings were still going on but they were curious as to why no one else was around.
“How long are they going to do this?” Alli groaned leaning her head on Alex’s shoulder.
“I don’t know,” Alex sighed looking at his watch. “Can’t we just leave?”
“I want to make sure she’s okay though,” Alli said leaning over Alex and peeking into the room. Joe was
holding AJ back as Meagan screamed into his face.
“It was one time Damnit!” Meagan said loudly pointing at AJ as he tried to get away from Joe’s
grasp. “It’s your fault you know!”
“What?” Alli and Alex said at the same time as everyone else went silent in the room. “What’s she
talking about?” Alex asked as Alli shrugged peering into the room again.
“I don’t know,” Alli said slowly looking worriedly at Alex “AJ and her did break up for a month or so for some reason that she never told me. But she can’t be talking about that--”
“It was your fault,” Meagan repeated continuously as she sat in the chair as AJ looked at her quietly
looking like the breath was knocked out of him. Joe had moved to the far wall looking like he didn’t want to be included into the conversation. It was unclear why he was sticking around in the first place to Alex and Alli.
“What, what did I do?” AJ asked hesitating as he kneeled in front of her.
“Please,” She said quickly “Don’t make me say, We—I, I can’t do that, I can’t hurt you.”
“You won’t,” AJ said rising her head with his finger. “I promise.”
“Not now,” She said biting her lip as she wiped the tears from her cheeks.
“Our cue,” Alex said quickly helping Alli up “Act like nothing happened.”
“AJ?” Alli smiled knocking on the door as everyone looked up at them startled.
“We’ve been looking for you guys forever,” Alex smiled. “This hall is like empty.”
“Meagan what’s wrong?” Alli asked concerned as AJ pulled her out of her seat and into a tight hug.
“It’s nothing,” She smiled as she sent a quick glance toward Joe. “What’s with you guys, I didn’t
expect you two to be so—together right now.”
“Well we talked,” Alex smiled wrapping his arm around Alli’s shoulders. “We figured some things out,
but right now we’re going to let things run its course.”
“Good,” AJ smiled still holding Meagan close to him.
“Yeah,” Alli smiled looking up at Alex as he pulled her into a hug.
Joe surveyed his friends from his position from leaning on the wall. He was surrounded by couples and he grimaced at the thought. He didn’t mind Alli and Alex trying to date. He knew for a long time before AJ that Alli had a crush on Alex for the longest time—Meagan had told him. He looked quietly at AJ and Meagan who were talking quietly to each other as Alli sat awkwardly at the other end of the room.
“Joe,” Alex said placing a hand on his shoulder stirring from his thoughts.
“Oh hey Alex,” He smiled weakly “What’s wrong?”
“You took the words out of my mouth,” He said slowly “What’s up man?”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” Joe said slowly shaking his head glancing at AJ and Meagan
again.
“Don’t lie,” Alex said stepping in front of him. “Alli and I were outside listening to what was going
on. Usually you are all over stuff like this. Why were you the silence factor with Meg and AJ? All you did was hold him back.”
“It was their fight,” Joe said shrugging.
“It wasn’t a fight,” Alex said quietly “There was something else going on.”
“So,” Joe said shrugging again avoiding the subject.
“You know something don’t you?” He asked quickly as Joe’s eyes flashed before he smiled.
“No,” Joe said laughing. “I’m just helping out some friends.”
“He knows something,” Alex said quietly to Alli as they walked back to his locker room. They gave up on trying to solve things for their friends. For the first time in a few hours they saw life around AJs locker room. It was an odd occurrence.
“Hey guys!” Sonjay said smiling pulling his hat on. “What’s up?”
“Gonna drop Alli off,” Alex smiled brightly.
“Cool,” He said nodding “A bunch of us are going out tonight. You guys want to come?”
“Sure,” Alli said quickly as Alex looked at her shocked. “We’ll meet you guys there later.”
“Oh Sonjay,” Alex said turning around before he got a chance to walk away. “How come everyone was avoiding AJs locker room today? There was like no signs of life for a few hours?”
“Oh,” He said slowly rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. “Well it was Steve that told us to stay away. He said he heard Meagan and AJ yelling at each other over some matter and I mean yelling. He said
in the beginning he heard them before he turned into the hallway. There were even people trying to calm them down and stuff, but Joe just sent them away. I think even a chair was broken.”
“What?” Alli and Alex said together.
“Yeah it was that bad,” He said slowly.
“We, we were just there,” Alex said shaking his head “I don’t get it, there was nothing wrong.”
“They’ve been arguing since past lunch,” Sonjay said “Like as soon as they all got back there. I saw Joe carrying out the chair. It was freaky.”
“I’ve never known them to fight,” Alli said in disbelief. “I wonder what’s wrong.”
“It’s gotta be something big, I’ve never known AJ to be much of a yeller but when it comes to certain things he’ll go off on you.”
“Is he coming tonight?” Alex asked quickly as Sonjay started to walk off. “I asked him, not sure if he’s coming. But Meagan will convince him. See ya.”
“Bye,” Alli said waving. “I don’t get it.”
“What the hell is going on here?” Alex asked her slowly.
