Robert walked down the stairs and into the kitchen he found Kelly sitting quietly at the table reading the morning paper. She placed down the paper as he walked into the room; she smiled at him as he took a seat across from her. He smiled at her weakly.
“What’s the matter?” She asked after a moment of silence.
“Daniel wants you to find something out,” Robert said slowly choosing his words carefully.
“What does he want me to find out?” Kelly said looking at Robert over the rim of her coffee mug.
“He wants you to find out what’s wrong with Katie, I want you to find out too, I was talking to her before
she handed the phone off to Daniel and something was seriously wrong. She wouldn’t tell me though,” Robert
said frowning.
“I’ll see what I can do when we get there,” Kelly sighed “Katie’s one hard person to get something out of. So I’ll have to see if I can even get a hint from her.”
“Well,” Robert shrugged at her “I’m sure you don’t need to get it out of her right away.”
“Yes, but it’ll take a while,” Kelly smiled.
“I packed our suit cases,” Robert said changing the subject “I figured might as well get it over with. So go see what I packed and if there is anything you want added, add it before we lock them up.”
“All right,” She said taking a sip of her coffee “What do you think I’ll need?”
“The usually stuff, heavy coat, some sweaters and just heavy clothing, it’ll be cold there now,” Robert smiled folding his arms on the table as he leaned forward.
“All right, I’ll go do that after a shower.” She grinned at him.
“A shower sounds good,” He smirked back at her.
“I don’t think so Mr. Pattinson,” Kelly laughed “Need I remind you of what happened last time?”
“But Mrs. Pattinson,” Robert smirked evilly “That was in a hotel, and that bath was a little small.”
“I still have a scar,” Kelly said spitefully, looking away.
“And how many times have I apologized for that?” Robert said seriously.
“Not enough,” Kelly smiled.
“Fine,” Robert sighed “I’m sorry again,”
“Oh I don’t care,” Kelly smirked “It happened long ago, I just love bringing it up.”
“Why you little--”
“So how about that shower,” Kelly smirked.
“What if I say no,” Robert asked.
“Oh there are many things I could do,” Kelly quipped.
“Like what?” Robert said.
“Do you really want to know?” She asked leaning forward.
“No I don’t,” Robert glared.
“Well then let’s go for that shower,” She smirked getting up from the tabled and grabbed Roberts arm as
she dragged him upstairs.
Katie kissed Daniel and Kira good bye as she walked out the door. She walked out to the car parked in front of their house. She threw her purse in the passenger seat as she climbed into the driver’s side. She took a deep breath as she turned on the car and pulled into the street.
It took her about ten minutes to reach her destination. She was shaking as she climbed out of the car. Katie was hoping with all her might that her nervous were the cause of all of this, and what she was dreading wasn’t true. She walked up to the building and opened the door. She walked up to the small window and signed in.
“Welcome,” The receptionist said to her smiling.
“Thanks,” Katie smiled weakly as she turned around and took a seat in one of the uncomfortable chairs.
Katie had been waiting for almost half and hour and her nervous were getting to her, she was about
to walk out when the door that lead to exam rooms opened, her heart pounded as the nurse looked at the
name on the paper.
“Katie McGill,” She said clearly smiling. Katie got up and walked toward her “Afternoon Ms. McGill,” She
nurse said in a Manchester accent “Would you step on the scale please?”
Katie walked through the door as she stepped on the scale. She didn’t even want to know how much
she weighed so she looked away when the nurse set the scale. After she stepped down, the nurse said “Exam Room four please,” Katie walked down the long hall and walked into the room. “Dr. Greenwald will be with you in a minute,” She smiled backing out of the room and shut the door.
Katie started to pace about the room as she waited for her doctor. She wrung her hands and shook nervously. She wanted to get this over with; calming herself she sat on the table and waited for the doctor. She swung her legs to keep her mind off of what she was thinking. Looking at her watch she sighed, she hated the long waits at the doctor’s office. How did they know you had the entire afternoon to spare?
Her heart leapt when the door slowly opened and her doctor walked in, she smiled at her. “Afternoon Katie,” She said quietly shutting the door behind her.
“Afternoon,” Katie said as her throat tightened. “What’s the news?”
“Well,” Dr. Greenwald started quietly “I’m a little surprised at this,”
“Doc, just tell me,” Katie said starting to shake “I’m already a bag of nerves.”
“Well Katie,” The doctor paused looking down at the chart. “You’re pregnant,”
“Pregnant!” Katie screamed. “This isn’t right! Kira’s only three months old! How far am I along?”
“About three weeks,” The Doctor said quietly.
“But that’s not possible!” Katie said “I just gave birth to Kira, I can’t be pregnant again!”
“I’m sorry Katie, but you are,” The doctor said seriously “I want you to make an appointment for a month from now, I want to see how you’re getting along.”
“Okay,” Katie said as she watched the doctor leave. “How on earth am I going to tell Daniel about this?”
She sighed holding back the tears. She grabbed her purse as she left the room.
“Dr. Greenwald, would like to see you back here in a month,” The receptionist said as Katie walked up to the window before she left. “I made you’re appointment card, its set for Noon, is that okay?”
“That’s fine,” Katie said quietly taking the card.
“See you back in a month,” She said smiling.
“Bye,” Katie said leaving the office and walked zombie like to her car.
Her mind was racing as she sat in the parking space inside her car. She couldn’t fathom how she
could tell said she was expecting their second child even before they started planning their wedding. All she knew right now is that their wedding would be before she started showing. She didn’t know how they were going to plan a wedding in that short of a time. Her hopes and dreams of a big wedding flew out the window as she started the car and drove home.
“Hey babe,” Daniel said kissing her on her cheek when she walked into the house twenty minutes later.
“Hi,” She smiled weakly, she decided at that moment she was going to hold off on telling him. He was so
happy with his life right now; she didn’t want to put another burden on him when he already had to worry
about the wedding. “Have fun while you were out?”
“I had a blast,” She lied smiling as him as he wrapped his arm around her.
“Kira’s taking a nap so we have the afternoon to ourselves,” Daniel smiled.
“I’m sorry Daniel,” Katie said frowning “I’m really tired could I possible take a nap before Kira wakes
up.”
“Sure love,” Daniel said looking at her concerned “Are you feeling all right?”
“Oh yes, I’m fine,” Katie smiled walking up the stairs. “I’m just really tired.”
“Okay,” Daniel said watching her go; he sighed as he walked into the living room. He really hoped that Robert or Kelly could get something out of her.
“It wasn’t as bad as it was last time,” Robert smiled sitting on his and Kelly’s bed, a towel around his waist.
“No,” Kelly said poking her head out of the bathroom door “But we have a bigger tub. And don’t sit on the
bed when you’re wet!” Robert jumped off the bed as if he got stung “There, now get dressed.” Kelly smiled
as she shut the door to the bathroom.
Robert shook his head as he picked out a pair of pants and a t shirt from his closet. He grabbed a pair of boxers from one of this clothing draws. He slipped them on under the towel. He took the towel off as he finished getting dressed. He walked down to the living room and waited for Kelly. He sighed as he flipped on the TV, he didn’t know how he wanted to spend his last day at home, and he knew he wanted to spend it with Kelly. And if their shower was a preview of what was going too happened before they left, he knew he needed some energy.
