Chapter Two

The next day, I woke up in the common room. I stretched from my bed on the couch and noticed I wasn’t the only one who was sleeping in the common room. Harry, Hermione and Ron were all asleep in the common room. Harry was at the other end of the couch, while Ron and Hermione were asleep in each others arms on the floor wrapped in a blanket.
Gryffindor had beaten Slytherin in a landslide victory: 450 to 10. Everyone in the Gryffindor house celebrated till McGonagall had told everyone to go to bed. I don’t remember how I had fallen asleep in the common room and not gone up to the dorm, but I was happy I didn’t. I smiled as I changed positions and was now facing Harry. I smiled as I brushed back his hair from his eyes.
He groaned as he moved back and readjusted his head position. I smiled as I felt his arm snake around my waist and pull me close. He must know it’s me; I leaned down and kissed him. To my surprised he started to kiss me back, he wrapped his other arm around me and pulled me closer. I closed my eyes and let his lips control me. Breaking apart, I opened my eyes and smiled as he was looking at me.
“You were waiting for that weren’t you?” I said “waiting for me to move closer to you?”
“Obvious wasn’t it,” Harry smiled
“To obvious now,” I said giving him a quick kiss. “I think we
better wake the other two love birds before one of the prefects reports us.”
“You know best,” He said rubbing my hair out of my eyes.
I smiled at him and rolled off the couch, I landed on my knees on the floor in front of the couch. I stood myself up slowly and walked quietly to where Ron and Hermione were in front of the fire. Harry sat up and was watching me carefully; I smiled at him and pressed my finger to my lips, telling him to be quiet. He nodded and I took out my wand.
“Aguamenti” I whispered and a few drops of water came out of my wand and hit Ron right in his face. He sat up and looked around stupidly as I quickly sat back down next to Harry hiding my wand. He wrapped his arm around me as Ron looked our way and squinted.
“What are you two a couple now?” Ron asked shaking Hermione awake.
Harry and I looked at each other and moved away from each other. Harry took his around from around me but grabbed my hand. And I smiled and looked away from Ron.
“In the process of being one, I’d say” Harry said squeezing my hand.
“And about damn time too,” Hermione said sitting up next to Ron.
“Well you two should talk,” I chimed in.
“Yeah but we’ve known we’ve liked each other,” Ron said standing up and stretching “you two were lost.”
“What ever you say Ron,” I said leaning on Harry’s shoulder “how did we end up sleeping down here anyone remember?”
“Yeah,” Harry stared “Everyone had gone to bed, after McGonagall had come in here. And you were already asleep on the couch, so she said just leave you. We went back up but came back down so you wouldn’t be alone.”
“Basically,” Hermione said rolling her eyes
“Harry,” I said kissing his cheek “that is the sweetest thing ever!”
“Okay you two enough,” Ron said grimacing
“What we have to go through you and Hermione having snog sessions,” Harry said “time for you to feel everyone else’s pain”
“Okay, you two,” Hermione stood up and walked over to the couch and sat next to me “no fighting.”
“Yeah, c’mon you guys,” I said glancing between them as I let go of Harry’s hand.
“Meg, come walk with me,” Hermione said looking at me
seriously
“What about breakfast and getting into new clothing?” I asked
“Later,” She said seriously
“All right, Harry I’ll see you at lunch,” I said kissing his cheek and stood up.
Hermione climbed out of the portrait hole after me. I stood waiting for her as she climbed through after kissing Ron good-bye. Something was up; I just didn’t know what it was. But I knew she wanted to talk about Harry. We were on the 2nd floor before she said anything to me.
“Meg, you know I’m your friend right,” She said slowly as she stopped. “And I don’t want to hurt your feelings by any of this,”
“Hermione, what’s the matter, you’re scaring me,” I said looking at her.
“It’s about Harry,” She started
“It’s ALWAYS about Harry,” I said quietly “Hermione, what’s the matter?”
“I’m worried about Harry,” She said glancing behind her to make sure he wasn’t there “He’s not acting himself as you just saw.”
“I figured something was up with that,” I said coldly
“Meg, don’t judge him by that one thing, he loves you, he’s told me,” She said looking at me kindly
“He’s told everyone but me, Hermione. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s a lie,” I said my voice cracking
“You know that’s not true,” She said sternly
“But if it is, I’ll never be able to look at him again, Hermione. I can’t be hurt like that again,” I said a tear leaving my eye.
“Don’t worry; Harry is one of my best friends I know him. He’ll come around; you just have to wait,”
“Wait, wait, wait, is all I’ve heard from people who ‘say’ they have heard him claim he loves me” I said almost yelling
“He’s not claiming it, he’s stating it. He loves you; you should hear him talk about you all the time. Saying how he’s protecting you from You-Know-Who Meagan. He doesn’t want you hurt you know that. Now stop this and wait for him,” She said pleading with me
“Hermione, I never said I wouldn’t wait. I just don’t understand why I have to. If he’s protecting me and so are you and Ron and I am in Hogwarts how can harm be done to me?” I asked slowly walking down the stairs again
“There have been many break-ins in Hogwarts, since I’ve been here. Hogwarts isn’t as safe as everyone thinks it is. That’s how Dumbledore got killed,” Hermione said, I could tell she was crying.
I stopped in my tracks, she was right. A raid happened at Hogwarts last year. That’s how Dumbledore died, that’s the reason we have a new potions teacher, that’s the reason that Draco spent the entire summer in hiding. I felt stupid for not realizing it all. I turned around slowly as I started to cry.
“Hermione I’m sorry, I forgot,” I said slowly “I can’t believe I forgot that.”
“Everyone forgets even the most important event in their life sometime Meagan,” She said walking up to me “Now, please look after Harry will you. You two may not be dating but you love each other and nothing can stop you from loving him.”
“Your absolutely right Hermione,” I smiled through my tears “I
love Harry and nothing can stop that.”
She smiled back at me and we finished our walk to the empty Great Hall. We were the first ones in the Great Hall for breakfast. And the tables look like they had just been set. Everything is neat and in order and no one has touched anything. Hermione and I took a seat in the middle of the table and gathered the fresh food toward us.
Slowly the rest of the school gathered in the Great Hall for breakfast. Hermione and I didn’t see Ron and Harry till about half an hour after we arrived. They exchanged looks as they sat down across from us. About five minutes later Victoria game in and took a seat next to Ron. For once no conversation happened between any of us. It was mostly looks, and weird looks at that. Hermione’s conversation with me was still fresh in my mind and I knew I wouldn’t forget it anytime soon.
Alone after breakfast I walked up to the Gryffindor Common room and up to the dorms. Everyone had decided that they would go outside and chat, but I wanted to change into new clothing. Slowly I walked up the stairs that lead to the dorm, and I was analyzing what Harry and I had done this morning and Hermione’s conversation with me. It did seem to add up to what she said, how Harry wasn’t acting himself.
A tear left my eye, I was being used, and Harry probably wasn’t even thinking what he was doing. Some love we shared, I thought as I opened the dormitory door and slammed it shut behind me. I lay down on my bed and stared at the ceiling above me. I didn’t know what to think about this morning’s event. Sighing I sat back up and grabbed some clothing out of my trunk. Changing quickly, I put my wand back in my pocket and headed down to the grounds.
I didn’t pass anyone in the hallways, it seemed
like the entire school was outside. It was a beautiful day; for once not a chance of rain and it was perfect weather. Slowly I walked out onto the grounds and ran to where Hermione, Ron, Harry and Victoria sat, which was a spot near the lake underneath an oak tree. Smiling I took a seat next to Harry and he snaked his arm around my waist.
“Miss me?” I asked everyone.
“Why wouldn’t we?” Harry asked lovingly and I tried to hide
my surprise as Harry kissed my cheek. When he looked away I took a scared glance at Hermione and she shrugged. I looked back at Harry and leaned on his shoulder.
“When’s our first Hogesmed trip?” Ron asked as he put his arm around Hermione’s shoulder.
“Not till the beginning of November.” Victoria said looking away from our group. I followed her gaze and realized she was staring at Draco. Shaking my head I kicked her leg. She glared at me and turned her attention back to the group.
“Well that’s not to far off,” Hermione said “only 2 weeks.”
“Are we planning anything this time?” I said.
“Not yet,” Harry said taking his gaze away from the lake “We’ll have to see if we have Quidditch Practice or something else.”
“Okay,” I said “well if you have Quidditch can I sit in the stands and watch?”
“Well, I don’t see why not, it’s not like you’re a spy for Slytherin” Harry said smiling.
“Not this year,” I said to myself.
I looked up at the sky and frowned; clouds were forming and moving in fast, looks like our perfect day is about to be ruined. I leaned into Harry’s arm more as I rested my head on his shoulder.
“Looks like rain now,” Hermione said looking up at the sky too.
“Great, just what we needed, this was supposed to be a beautiful day. I didn’t want to spend it in the common room,” Ron said grimily.
“Well, it looks like we’re going to have to,” Victoria said as the rain started to fall.
“Oh fun let’s run before we get caught in the door,” I said as everyone got up and ran quickly to the front door.
We weren’t the only one’s rushing to get in, it took us a couple of minutes to get back into the castle by then the rain had started to down pour and we were all soaked. I brushed back my wet hair out of my eyes as I turned around and waited for everyone to get inside. No one was smiling anymore. Quietly everyone walked back to the common room and when we walked through the portrait hole the entire room was filled with people.
I sighed as our group walked to a corner in the common room, because our entire favorite chairs had been taken. The rest of the day just dragged on, since we weren’t able to go outside because of the sudden downpour of rain. We just ended up talking most of the morning, about nothing really. But I think Hermione wanted to bring up Harry’s actions but she wasn’t sure how to bring it up without it causing some type of fight.
There was jam at the portrait hole to get down for lunch. Everyone was so bored they welcomed the afternoon meal. I even caught some Gryffindors running down to the Great Hall to finally be able to do something. I sat quietly at the Gryffindor table as everyone around me chatted. I didn’t sit next to Harry, he seemed a bit disappointed that I did that, but I was still frustrated about why he would lead me on like that.
After lunch, I went up to my dormitory and worked on the piles of homework the teachers had given us. I asked Victoria if she wanted to work together on McGonagall’s essay but she didn’t want to, she told me she’d already done it. So I sat on my bed the rest of the day trying to get done. I lay down after I had finally completed it all. I didn’t go down for dinner and that brought Hermione up to my dorm to check on me.
“Why didn’t you come down for dinner?” She asked moving my books to take a seat on the end of my bed.
“I didn’t feel like it,” I sighed lying on my side.
“You didn’t want to talk to Harry,” She smiled at me.
“Well that too,” I smirked “I think I might just avoid him for a little
while. Did you get a chance to talk to him about this morning?”
“Almost, Ron kept cutting me off though.” Hermione said quietly.
“Don’t worry about it, I’m sure he’ll realize what he’s done, or I hope he does.” I said sitting up.
“I’m sure he will,” She said smiling at me again.
