The snow started to fall harder as Tom sped down the highway, his girlfriend Morgan beside him. They were trying to make it back home after a Christmas in New York City. They were two hours from home, and Tom was trying to beat the storm.
“Tom,” Morgan said nervously “I think we should find a hotel. You can’t see 20 feet in front of you.”
“I know, but this might pass over,” Tom said quickly glancing at her.
“Please Tom,” She said placing a hand on his arm “if we drive any fathers we might get in a wreck. Or we might get stuck in the car.”
“Okay,” Tom said scanning ahead for signs. “What we’ll do is the next exit with a hotel we’ll stop okay?”
“Thank you,” She said staring out of the window.
Tom drove for ten more minutes to an exit with a hotel. By that time the snow wall falling even harder. Quickly he pulled into the nearest hotel, parking the car as near as he could get it to the hotel lobby. Putting the car in park he took off his seat belt. Signed he turned to his girlfriend.
“Gather two of our suitcases, and put back on your jacket. I’ll go get us a room.” Tom said slipping on his coat.
Morgan nodded, as Tom leaned over and kissed hero n the cheek. Quickly he got out of the car. Shutting the door he left her. When he stepped out of the car he got the breath knocked out of him. It was so cold his muscles seized up. Hurrying he ran to the lobby of the hotel. When the doors opened before him he smiled at the heat. Ruffling the snow out of his hair he walked to the front desk.
“Hello Sir,” The lady at the front desk said “How can I help you?”
“I’d like a room please,” Tom said taking out his wallet
“Okay,” The receptionist typed something into the computer “how many days sir?”
“Two should be enough,” he said looking out the doors; he couldn’t see his car and it was parked 10 feet
away from the door.
“Okay sir that’ll be 1600. How are you going to pay for this?” She said looking up at him.
“Debt card,” Tom said handing her the card.
“Thank you sir,” she said handing back his card after sliding it through, and placed two key cards on the counter “Your room is 527”
“Thank you,” Tom said taking his card and two key cards.
Putting his debt card back into his wallet, he walked back out into the cold. He ran back to his car and got back into the drivers seat. He waited for a few moments letting the heat warm him, and then he spoke.
“We got a room.” Tom said looking at Morgan and handed one of the keys to their room. Tom shivered and she
leaned over and kissed him.
“You cold as ice,” She said placing a hand on his freezing face.
“It’s like zero degrees outside with the wind,” Tom smiled as Morgan frowned. “Don’t worry, two seconds and we’ll be inside. Got the suit cases?”
“Yup” She said picking them up.
“Let’s go,” Tom said turning off the car.
He stuffed his keys in his pocket as he and Morgan ran into the hotel. Reaching the lobby Tom wrapped his arm around her as they walked to the elevator. Getting in it Tom pressed the button for floor five. The ride up was quiet and Tom kept his arm around Morgan because she wouldn’t stop shivering.
The door opened on floor give and they walked down the hall to their room. Tom opened the door to the small suite. Shutting the door behind him Morgan placed the suit case down. She sat down on the couch as Tom turned up the heat in their room.
“Better?” Tom asked leaning against the nearest wall.
“Much,” She said getting up and walking to the window. As she passed Tom she laid a hand on his face, she let it fall back to her side as she stared out the window. She folded her arms across her chest “It’s gotten worse in the last 10 minutes.”
“Well,” Tom said wrapping his arms around her “be happy we found a hotel. Or we’d be stuck in the car
right now.”
“True, but like you, I just want to get home,” She said turning around in his arms and faced him.
They looked at each other and smiled. Morgan ran her fingers through his brown hair and she saw his eyes sparkle. He leaned down and kissed her quickly on the lips. She smiled at him, and then rested her head on his chest as he pulled her closer. He rested his chin on her head her head as he looked out the window at the white night. Tom let go of her and walked over to where she put the suit cases.
“We’ll be here for at least two days.” Tom said.
“Good thing nothing is waiting for us at home,” Morgan said shutting the curtains.
“You want to spend out last days alone in a hotel surrounded by snow?” Tom asked putting the suit cases on the couch.
“As long as I’m with you that’s all that matters,” She smiled.
“Well it’s late,” Tom said throwing her some sleep cloths “Let’s go to bed,”
Morgan caught the clothing and looked at Tom strangely, but she shrugged it off. Tom watched her as she walked into the small bathroom. He shrugged her off and changed into his sleep clothing. Throwing his day old clothing into a bad he sat down on the bed and turned on the TV. Flipping through the channels he found the weather channel, and a bulletin was scrolling across the screen
“RESIDENTS OF BUFFALO ARE WARNED TO STAY IN DOORS, TEMPERATURES HAVE DROPPED TO BELOW ZERO. SNOW MOUNDS ARE OVER 2 FEET TALL. LOCAL OFFICALS WANT EVERYONE OFF THE ROADS.” The bulletin paused and repeated. Tom shut off the TV when Morgan came out of the bathroom.
“Well,” Tom said lying back against the pillows. “We’ll be here for a while. I just saw the weather and more snow is coming.”
“You think you’ll miss filming for the first day?” Morgan asked throwing her clothing where Tom put his.
“Maybe,” Tom smiled “So what should we do?”
“I have,” Morgan started as she kneeled on the bed. Tom grinned as she climbed up his body. As she reached
his lips she kissed them “a few ideas.”
“Do share,” Tom grinned as he turned out the lights.
