He rolled over as he heard the door bell ring throughout the house. Sitting up suddenly he threw his sheets off of him and ran down the stairs. He walked through three rooms before he reached the door. Opening it he saw a beautiful girl standing there mid-knock, his girlfriend.

She stood there in a short jean skirt and a purple long sleeve shirt. She was about 6 inches shorter than his 6’3” starchier. She tucked a strand of her short brown hair behind her ear as she smiled at him. Her blue eyes looked him up and down.

“Jen,” He said leaning on the door to let her through.

“Thanks for dressing up for me Tom,” She said sarcastically

Tom looked down at himself and blushed. In his rush to answer the door he forgot to put on some cloths. He was only wearing a pair of blue boxers. Blushing, he quickly shut the door. He grinned slyly at his girlfriend.

“Its 2:30 what are you still sleeping for?” Jen asked moving her purse higher on her shoulder.

“I was working late, I didn’t get out of filming till midnight,” Tom said locking his door.

“My poor baby,” Jen said playfully putting her hand on his face

“I’ll go put some cloths on,” He said taking hold of the hand she had laid on his face.

“Do you have to?” Jen said rubbing a finger down his well toned chest “I really love the view.”

“Well I could stay like this a little longer,” He said moving closer to her.

“That would make my day!” She grinned as she wrapped her arms around him. She put her face against his
chest and smelled his cologne. He rested his chin on top of her head as he wrapped his arms around her neck.

She broke off their hug; standing on her tip toes she kissed him on the lips. He smiled at her as she stepped back from her. This was the first time he’d seen his girlfriend in over a week. His work schedule always kept him from her and he always hated that. If he didn’t want to support Jen in the best way possible he would’ve quit years ago.

He ran his fingers through her hair. He loved her more than life itself. But they hadn’t reached the point in their relationship where they said how they felt. He was hoping that point would come soon; he didn’t think he’d be able to hold off saying it any longer. He smiled at her and kissed her forehead.

“I know how much you love this view,” He said rubbing her cheek with his thumb “but I can’t go out in public like this.”

“They should really make that legal,” She said taking his hand in hers and kissed it.

“You would really enjoy me walking around like this all day wouldn’t you?” Tom smirked.

“Well if we move in together you can do that,” She smirked back

“Move in?” Tom said surprised “when have we decided that?”

“We haven’t,” Jen said quickly “we aren’t ready, it was a slip of the tounge.”

“Of course,” Tom said quietly “let me go get dressed.”

“Sure,” Jen blushed.

As Tom headed back up the stairs he stopped midway and saw his girlfriend still standing in the hallway. He leaned over the banister to get a better look. She looked so sad, a slip of the tongue? He thought, it was what she really wanted to do. His heart sank; he shouldn’t have said his reaction the way it came out. He kicked himself for even replying. He ran up the rest of the sitars as his girlfriend saw him looking at her.

Going into his room he shut the door and walked to his closet, opening it he stooped down and rummaged thought the bottom of his closet for a pair of pants. Finding a pair that he didn’t wear most of the week, he slipped them on. Then he grabbed a t-shirt off a hanger. Slipping the shirt over his head he walked to his dressier. Grabbing his wallet and keys he left the room.

Walking down the stairs he walked through the three rooms to the front door. He saw his girlfriend still standing there. She had her back to him; he quietly sneaked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her. He felt her tense up and she shrugged him off. He backed away from her as she turned around.

“What?” Tom said looking at her “What did I do?”

“Nothing can we just go please?” Jen said opening the door.

He let her walk out the door looking at her strangely. Walking out after her he shut the door behind him and locked it. He watched her walk down the walkway to his car. She stood beside the passenger door of his SUV. He walked slowly taking his keys out of his pocket, to his car. He hesitated at opening the door, putting the key in the slot and turned it all the doors opened.

Jen had opened her door and was in the care before Tom had even touched the door handle. Opening his door quickly he climbed into the car, and shut the door. Putting the key in the ignition he turned on the engine. Before putting the car in gear he leaned back in the seat with his hands on the wheel.

“Where do you want to go?” He tired to say calmly

“I don’t care,” She said staring out the window.

“Well do you at least mind saying where you CARE to go?” Tom said through gritted teeth.

“Fine, movies,” She said folding her arms and continued to stare out of the window.

“Fine,” Tom said putting the car in reverse and pulled out onto the street.

He drove the 20 minutes to the nearest movie theater. When they reached the theater they both got out of the car. With arms folded Jen followed Tom’s every move. When they got into the theater Jen was distant. She sat with her arms and legs crossed and stared at the screen. Two hours later they were back in the car and they hadn’t talked in three hours.

“Jen,” He started and didn’t wait for her to reply “do I need to drop you off at your house?”

“No, I had told my ride I’d spend the night, but I’ll call her to tell her to pick me up.” She said sadly.

“Okay,” he said “you could stay the night still.”

“No,” She said as he entered the highway “I don’t think that’s a good thing to do.”

The rest of the car ride it was silent. Tom drove slowly; he wanted to spend a lot of time with her. He knew with the way she was acting today, he wouldn’t see her for a while. He pulled into his driveway 30 minutes later. They got out of the car together; he held her hand loosely as they walked back inside his house. She dropped Tom’s hand and went to the kitchen to make her call.

They waited for twenty minutes for Jen’s ride to arrive. The entire time Tom wanted to yell out “I LOVE YOU” at the top of his lungs. He knew that’s what she’s been waiting for, dieing to hear. Suddenly they head a car horn and Jen got up and walked to the door, as Tom followed her.

“I won’t be seeing you for a while Tom.” She said opening the door.

“Jen I-” He started

“What?”

“I-”

“Just say it Tom,” She sighed.

“I love you,” He said finally; she smiled

“I know,” She said stepping out onto the stoop “but it’s to late Tom,”

She shut the door and walked out of Tom’s life forever. Leaving him shell shocked and crying.
