Robert placed Kelly plate lightly in front of her, she murmured her thanks and waited for him to sit down before she started to eat. Both of them were unnaturally quiet, almost dreading the talk they had both agreed that they would have after unpacking and eating. It wasn’t an easy conversation they both knew they, they tried to have it directly after it happened, but it lead to nothing more than yelling and Robert sleeping on the couch for the week before Kelly was able to cool down.

Looking up from his plate Robert studied his wife’s face. She was somber which he knew meant she was dreading the talk even though she was the one who wanted to talk about it in the first place. He would be happy if the talk was put off for another year, he would never admit it out loud but he was almost relieved when it happened. But every time he thinks about it, he can’t help but be sad and hateful toward himself for even thinking like that. Biting his lip Kelly met his gaze.

“It still hurts,” Kelly said slowly moving the pasta around her plate, she didn’t see it there, she saw past it. A dull hunger was in her stomach but she wasn’t hungry for food.

“Then let’s not torture ourselves with this talk again Kelly,” Robert said as calmly as he could. “If you can’t handle this then we shouldn’t even be
talking about conceiving again.”

“But I want a baby,” Kelly said slowly, Robert gritted his teeth he could already see the tears welling in her eyes again. It always happened when she was about to mention their son. He hadn’t build up the wall he wanted to yet. Sighing she continued “Please can’t we at least try one more time.”

“It’s been three months Kel,” Robert said slowly. “The Doctor said we have to wait another month or so, just to make sure.”

“Yeah but he didn’t really know what happened last time maybe we could,” Kelly started excitedly the tears already gone from her eyes.

“If we were to try something,” He started carefully as he watched Kelly’s every anxious move “It wouldn’t be for a while. We just moved into a new house we’ve got to settle down there are plenty of things to take care of before all of this.”

“But Robert it would be a few more months before anything could happen, in those few months I could be pregnant and everything you would want to be done would be done and then we’d just have to wait for the baby to arrive,” Kelly said quickly.

“Well,” Robert blinked slowly he didn’t exactly understand what she was talking about “I don’t know Kelly. Maybe it was a mistake to talk about this in the middle of the move.”

“I want to try again Robert,” Kelly said carefully “You know how much I want a child.”

“And you know how much I wanted to wait,” Robert countered as he slammed his fists on the table standing up quickly. Kelly flinched away as he ran his fingers through his hair. “I can see agreeing to this conversation was a bad idea.”

“Maybe it was,” Kelly said taking a long sip from her wine glass. “Maybe we should wait until the Doctor said it was safe.”

“Or maybe you should get those tests done that he said you should’ve, so we know for sure Kelly,” He picked up his plate and turned toward the kitchen “I don’t want to go through that again.” Slowly he walked into the kitchen.

“You think I want to?” Kelly said to Robert’s chair “I shouldn’t force him.” She said to herself as she ran her fingers through her hair before pushing her uneaten dinner away from her.

Robert took a seat carefully at the island within the kitchen, he stared at his plate as her stomach growled. He was practically starving not having eaten anything since last night, to focused on the move to even bother. Slowly he pushed his plate away. This is exactly what he was dreading. He knew they would get into a petty argument over it all, he had shared his views with Kelly before they got married; he wanted to wait. He never wanted children until he became a godfather but still he wanted to wait. They were both still young and had a lot of growing to do before they could support another life. Sighing he picked up a forkful of pasta and ate it quickly.

He wasn’t sure what he was going to do, but he knew that he had to keep Kelly’s mind off of babies as much as possible. He figured moving into the new apartment would have some part in that but he was very wrong. They still had about two weeks before they would be full settled into their new home, so he knew he wouldn’t be able to plan anything before then. Traveling to England to visit their best friends were out of the question they were going through a rough spot of their own, and it seemed like at the moment it would be a indefinite rough stop, they already agreed not to meddle. Taking another bite of his dinner he thought about the beach, they hadn’t been in a couple of months and he knew how much Kelly loved it. He could find a nice hotel on the ocean, near lots of shopping that would keep her mind from adding onto their family.

“Robert I’m sorry,” Kelly said carefully as she walked into the kitchen.
Stirred from his thoughts he looked at her standing in the doorway her arms wrapped around her chest like she was holding in the empty spot. “That’s not where I wanted that conversation to go.”

“I know darling,” He said slowly as she walked up to him. Cupping her cheek in his palm he brushed away a stray tear. “It’s not where I wanted it to go. Maybe we should forget about it for a while huh? Go on a little vacation after we’re all settled in here?”

“I would love that more than anything,” Kelly beamed, leaning forward she brushed her lips against his. “Where to?”

“The beach.”
