“We’re going to be late, hurry your butt up!” Joe yelled up the stairs to AJ who was running thirty minutes late for his own surprise party. Joe had called Christopher Daniels three times since coming to pick up AJ.
Joe was doing this mostly to prove that he did in fact love AJ. In all the years he had known AJ there was something there he couldn’t push away. He hadn’t admitted it to AJ either which is why he was throwing the birthday party, by the end of the night he would tell AJ those three words that he had held back for all those years. Up until recently there was something—someone else standing in Joe’s way from getting AJ. Luckily that had ended and now Joe finally had his chance.
“Joe,” AJ said snapping his fingers in front of the younger man eyes. “Are you okay you zoned out for a bit there. You had me worried.”
“Oh yeah sorry Jay I’m okay,” Joe laughed. “You ready to go?”
“Yeah where are we going?” AJ asked quickly grabbing his coat following Joe out to his car. “You didn’t throw me a party did you? You know how much I hate that I’m thirty now.”
“Oh would you stop your bickering!” Joe smirked as AJ climbed into passenger side of the car. “We’re just two friends going out to eat for dinner.” Joe sighed. How he wanted to be so much more than friends with AJ.
“Okay,” AJ said slowly as he looked out the window.
Joe sighed as he looked at AJ quickly before turning his attention back to the road. He didn’t understand why it was so hard for him to admit his feelings to AJ. Apart of him knew AJ had something for him, but he always had a big fear of rejection. And with AJ just getting out a long relationship he didn’t want to try it. Which is another big reason why he wanted to admit his feelings tonight, it was a turning point in AJs life, and maybe he would allow Joe into his life at this time.
“We’re here,” Joe smiled as he turned off the car.
“Uh huh,” AJ said suspiciously looking at the building.
“It’s a restaurant. Now get your ass out of the car and let’s go,” Joe said
opening his door and quickly getting out of the car.
“If you threw me a party,” AJ said pointing a finger at Joe as he followed
him into the building. “I will have to hurt you.”
“Oh hush up, nothing is bad about being thirty,” Joe snapped as he led him to the back of the busy restaurant.
“It makes me feel old,” AJ grumbled spitefully as Joe grinned.
“SURPRISE!” All of AJs friends yelled as he jumped clutching his chest.
“Gosh, would you guys,”
“Happy Birthday!” They all grinned at AJ as Joe laughed quietly joining the group of friends.
“You guys knew I didn’t want a party,” AJ frowned.
“And you should know by now Allen that we never listen to you,” Austin Aries
smirked raising his glass to his friend.
“Well at least we didn’t get you a stripper!” Colt Cabana yelled from the back of the room.
“Oh jeez,” AJ said slowly shaking his head.
Joe grabbed a cup of some random drink and sat back to watch AJ mingle before he tired to approach him again. He wanted to catch him in the right mood with AJ that shouldn’t take long. Leaning back he watched all of his friends go up to AJ to congratulate him, mock him and call him older than dirt. Joe couldn’t help but laugh at AJs reaction to all of their friends.
The time passed slowly but Joe didn’t move. As the night continued on he got more and more nervous and couldn’t move. Joe felt guilty as their friends began to leave wishing AJ a happy birthday before heading home. Soon AJ and Joe were one of the few left. AJ had been talking with Colt Cabana most of the night which had Joe’s stomach turning with envy and jealousness. When Cabana left AJ walked to Joe and sat down next to him.
“You were anti social today,” AJ said slowly “Totally unlike you.”
“I’ve had something on my mind,” Joe said taking a sip out of his drink. “Suppose I let it take over my night.”
“Oh, what’s wrong?” AJ asked as Joe shrugged. “C’mon Joe we’re friends tell me?”
“It’s stupid, I don’t want to talk about it,” Joe said shrugging again.
“At least tell m what it’s about,” AJ pressed.
“It’s about you,” Joe mumbled looking at the older man.
“What?”
“You,”
“Me? Really how?” AJ asked blushing.
“There’s something I’ve wanted to tell you for a long time,” Joe said slowly. “But I don’t think I can now,”
“Why not?” AJ laughed smiling brightly.
“Because of Cabana,” Joe said quickly getting up and walking out of the room.
“Joe what are you talking about?” AJ asked quickly trying to catch up with
his friend. “Why are you blaming Colt?”
“He’s your new guy isn’t he?” Joe asked taking out the keys of his car.
“What? Cabana? No! Joe what would make you think that?” AJ laughed quietly.
“I dunno, you were with him the entire night,” Joe shrugged. “Look I’m not
going to bother I’m just gonna go.”
“Joe he was helping me,” AJ said quickly his mood changing drastically. “He was urging me to do something.”
“Oh? Like what,” Joe asked quietly.
“He was trying to get me to tell you how I feel,” AJ blushed starting to move
away from the car. “I’m just gonna go back to the party.”
“Wait,” Joe said shutting the car door running over to AJ. “How you feel?”
“Yes, I’ve been meaning to tell you for a while, I just couldn’t.” AJ shrugged before walking toward the restaurant again.
“AJ,” He stopped in his steps his hand on the door. “That’s what I’ve been struggling to tell you too. I-uh, love you.” Joe laughed rolling his eyes “How pathetic that sounds.”
“Joe,” AJ grinned “I love you too.”
AJ slowly walked up toward the younger man. Joe grinned before roughly kissing AJ. His stomach turned as he slowly backed away looking embarrassed.
“Happy Birthday AJ,” Joe smiled before slowly walking back to his car.
“You know I hope that’s not the only present you have for me,” AJ smirked crossing his arms across his chest. “I’m ready for anything you have.”
“Well it’s a good thing I’ve had a present in mind for the last two hours,” Joe winked. “Now go instead get your shit so we can get back to your house. I’m sure you don’t want me to fuck you in the car, it would be highly uncomfortable.”
