Author's Note: Another story out of a dream. Don't ask why, it just always happens. And I know the summary is stupid. I don't think I ever had a summary for it. I'll come up with a better one.

They stepped out of their house into the calm spring day. Hayden couldn’t take his eyes off of Rose. He was worried about her. Some how she seemed more fragile then usual. Hayden adjusted his old Red Sox cap, so it was more over his eyes. It was a unusually bright day.

Rose pulled her over coat tightly around her. She was feeling better now that she’d eaten some breakfast. She glanced up at Hayden, though the cap covered his eyes she could tell he was watching her. Rose looked down the road that cut the town in half. She could see a few people were up.

Hayden put his arm around her, as they started to walk down the road. Their steps echoed as they walked silently down the street. Rose looked down the alleyway that was near. She could see eyes following her movement. She moved closer to Hayden, as he tightened his grip on her.

They had lived in that town as long as she could remember. She was about thirteen when she and Hayden arrived in the town. But she never remembered how they came to the town. She even tired to ask Hayden if he remembered, but he would just shrug and say no. She gave up asking him about it.

Rose tore herself away from her thoughts, and realized that she and Hayden had stopped walking. She looked up and saw a man in black standing in front of them. She wrapped her arms around Hayden as he started to talk.

“Mr. Broad said that he wouldn’t be able to do the night watch tomorrow night. He told me his wife if having complications with their baby and she wants him to stay home.” He said to Hayden.

“Thanks Bode, I’ll try to get Derrick to cover it. He hasn’t had a watch in weeks. I was just about to head over to his place anyway.” Hayden said casually.

“How are you this mind morning, Miss Rose?” Bode said turning his attention to Rose.

“I’m fine Mr. Bode.” Rose said smiling at him “Thanks for asking.”

He smiled at her and nodded at Hayden. “I’ll see you tomorrow at our watch Hayden.”
Hayden nodded at him. Smiling again at Rose he walked past them. Hayden loosened his grip on her shoulder as they walked down the street. About five minutes later they came to a old hotel, were a few of the non boarded windows showed life in the hotel.

Walking in the door they walked past the cob-web covered front desk. Hayden took his arm from around Rose, and took her hand. Taking a right after they passed the front desk they walked through a doorway that lead them to the stairs.

The stair well was the only lit part on the first floor. The light over the entrance flickered on and off as they ascended the stairs. Rose still held Hayden’s hand as they climbed the stairs. He held her hand tight, he visited this hotel just about everyday, but he still didn’t trust it.

Reaching the top floor he opened the door and let Rose go before him. They walked down the hall, here and there doors were missing or the doors had holes in them. They reached the end of the hall, the door in front of them once led to a Master Suite in the hotel. Now it led to Derrick’s home. Hayden knocked on the door.

They heard foot steps and the lock clicking. A man about Hayden’s height and build stood at the door. He had light brown hair and shocking blue eyes. He had a scar beneath his right eye. He smiled at Hayden and Rose as he let them enter. Hayden and Derrick were best friends, and acted liked brothers. Motion for them to sit down he took a seat in one of the chairs. Taking a seat on the couch Hayden pushed his hat farther back on his head.

“It’s unusually bright outside.” Hayden said to his old friend.

“It is,” Derrick said looking out his window “Brightest day of this year.”

“I’d say.” Hayden said leaning forward “We ran into Bode on the way here.”

“Yeah,” Derrick said turning his attention back to Hayden “What did he say?”

“Broad can’t do tomorrow night’s watch. His wife, she’s having pregnancy problems and wants him home
tomorrow. You think you can join me and Bode on the watch that night?”

“Tomorrow night?” Derrick asked “Sure, it’ll make up for the night I couldn’t go.”

“Exactly what I was thinking.” Hayden explained. Hayden looked over at Rose and realized she was asleep.
Derrick noticed it too, he motioned for Hayden and him to go out of the balcony. Hayden walked quickly to the balcony. Readjusting his hat to cover his eyes he leaned on the railing. Derrick shut the sliding door and leaned against it.

“Any word from Marshal about what he saw?” Derrick asked Hayden.

“None, he hasn’t been on watch since he saw them.” Hayden explained “David thought he saw movement in the distance, but he told me he wasn’t sure.”

“Why wasn’t he sure?” Derrick said moving to beside Hayden.

“He told me he fell asleep on his watch, just woke up and he wasn’t convinced.” Hayden sighted.

“Where was-”

“He didn’t show up.” Hayden explained. “Neither did Roberts. They both didn’t bother to show.”

“Why didn’t David tell anyone?” He knows the rules!” Derrick argued.

“I know, but he said it didn’t occur to him.” Hayden told him

“Why did he fall asleep anyways?” Derrick questioned.

“No one knows,” Hayden sighed and shook his head. “He doesn’t know.”

Derrick sighed and shook his head. They stood in silence watching over the street below. Hayden took a deep breath, and looked around into the room. Rose was still asleep, she took the blanket from the back of the couch and wrapped it around her. Hayden smiled and looked at the cloudy sky.

“Rose has been sick lately.” Hayden said almost to himself.

“Really? What’s been the problem?” Derrick questioned sounding concerned.

“Dunno. Every other morning she wakes up with immense stomach pains then she throws up.” Hayden shook his head “I wish I knew, I want to help her.”

“Well” Derrick looked over his shoulder at Rose asleep on the couch. “She did look exhausted when you two came in. Maybe you two should head home it’s a long walk.”

“Your right.” Hayden stood up and opened the sliding door and walked in. Derrick shut the door after himself “Thanks for covering for Broad tomorrow.” Hayden said bending over and picked up Rose.

“My pleasure.” Derrick said opening the door for Hayden who had Rose in his arms. “I’ll be at your house by eight.”

Hayden nodded and walked out the door. He heard Derrick shut the door behind him. Rose seemed light as a feather to him as he carried her down the stairs. Pushing the door open with his back he walked on to the street, he walked fast back to their house. He pushed the door open with his hip and shut it with his foot. Walking back to their bed he laid her down on the bed and wrapped a blanket around her.
