I ran all the way up to the common room, not letting anything stop me. Hysterical I had to calm down before I entered the common room. Still sobbing I entered, and it felt like all eyes were on me. I looked around for Hermione but I couldn’t find her. Crying harder I looked for Ron and saw him sitting on the couch talking to Dean and Seamus. Wiping the tears from my cheeks I walked up to him.
“Ron,” I said trying to control the tone of my voice.
“Meagan hey,” Ron smiled at me “We were just talking about you.”
“Great,” I said sighing “Can I talk to you Ron please?”
“Meg are you okay?” He asked standing up.
“Yes,” I said trying not to cry “can I just talk to you please?”
“Yeah sure,” Ron said walking around the couch he put his arm around me as we
walked back out of the common room. “What’s the matter?”
“Ron I just saw the most horrible thing in my life?” I said staring to cry again.
“Snape in his underwear?” Ron joked; I cracked a small smile “Sorry I wanted to get you to laugh. What?”
“Harry and Victoria, hugging and it looked like they were going to kiss!” I said breaking down.
“What?” Ron said loudly as we walked into an empty classroom. “Tell me exactly what you saw.”
“Well, they were in an empty class room together. I was walking back to the common room, because Harry failed to meet me outside the library again. I heard voices so I looked into the class room. And there were Harry and Victoria hugging. And close enough to kiss. They tried to call me back but I couldn’t go back Ron I couldn’t! I thought he loved me! He told me he did! Why did he have to do that Ron?” I asked as he wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace.
“Meagan are you sure that you just misinterpreted what they were doing?” He asked quietly.
“Ron I’m positive about what I saw!” I said backing away from his hug. “You don’t believe me do you?”
“It just doesn’t seem like something that Harry would do. He told me Victoria is like his sister, he feels the same way about Victoria as he does about Hermione.” Ron reasoned.
“Ron I saw what I saw,” I said clenching my teeth. “Why won’t you just believe me?”
“Because it’s not believable,” Ron said quickly. “Look Meagan just ask Harry about it. If he was calling you back I’m sure he had something to say to you. Talk to Victoria it’s a misunderstanding.”
“I’m not talking to either of them Ron,” I said folding my arms “They both betrayed me. I’m not talking to them.”
“Don’t be stubborn,” Ron said.
“Stubborn don’t talk to me about stubborn,” I said through gritted teeth.
“Look Meagan, I’ll talk to Harry okay? I’m sure this is all just a misunderstanding.”
Ron said smiling.
“Ron, I hope your right,” I sighed.
Ron and I walked quickly back to the common room. He rubbed my back as we sat down on the couch, waiting for Hermione. Ron thought it was best if we told her what the situation was. She might be able to figure out what the problem was. Twenty minutes later Hermione walked in with a pile of books in her hands. Ron got up and helped her while I sat quietly on the couch. I heard Hermione and Ron whispering behind me but I didn’t bother turning around.
“Meagan are you okay?” Hermione asked me taking a seat in the chair beside the couch.
“No,” I said dryly
‘Ron-Ron just told me what happen,” Hermione said slowly as Ron took a seat
next to me again. “I’m so sorry Meagan, that doesn’t seem like Harry would you
like me to talk to him?”
“No,” I said tearfully “I think I might just give up on him now.”
“Don’t do that,” Ron said kindly.
“Meagan it was a mistake,” Hermione said quietly.
“A mistake?” I scoffed “The only mistake I had was loving him. I should’ve stuck
with Malfoy.”
“What?” Ron and Hermione said together.
“I dated Draco when I was younger,” I said slowly “It was low key.”
“I just can’t believe you dated ferret boy,” Ron said slowly.
“Well I’m not calling that the best moment in my life,” I said bitterly folding my
arms.
“Ron doesn’t hold it against you Meagan I’m sure,” Hermione said hitting Ron’s leg.
“No, I don’t,” Ron grinned “I just can’t believe you dated him.”
“Why does everyone say that?” I laughed leaning back.
“Because you have to be like the first Gryffindor ever to have a relationship with a Slytherin,” Ron said slowly “And be able to hide it.”
“Just one more question about Malfoy and we’ll drop it,” Hermione said. Ron
started to say something but Hermione glared at him. “How long did you exactly date Malfoy?”
“Well--” I started, I looked at Ron and Hermione’s anxious faces and knew I couldn’t lie “Over a year,” I said quietly.
“Over a year!” Ron blurted out so loud the entire common room went quiet. “Sorry,” He said his ears turning red.
“How on earth did you keep that low key?” Hermione whispered shocked.
“Well only one person ever found out,” I smiled unfolding my arms and laughing “Draco said he would hex them into next year if they ever told.”
“Who was it?” Ron asked breathlessly.
“Well--” I started slowly, I remembered that day so clearly. I had walked out of Transfiguration class and I was walking down the hall and Draco grabbed my arm and pulled me behind a tapestry. How he found us behind there I didn’t know, to me it seemed like he was looking for me. “Harry,” I said slowly.
“Harry caught you two?” Hermione asked staring at me.
“Yeah,” I said slowly “The look on his face could’ve killed, it nearly broke my heart too. I broke up with Draco the next week. I couldn’t stand it. Apparently he still has a thing for me, according to Victoria.”
“Wow,” Ron said searching for the right words “I can’t believe you never told us this, or Harry.”
“I didn’t think it was important,” I said shrugging “I don’t think Harry wanted to tell either because it would mean admitting he lost me to Draco-- besides this was a time where Harry was busy, so it might’ve slipped his mind.”
“I doubt that,” Hermione said “that picture is probably haunting him right now. I really do think you should make up with him Meagan--” Hermione said getting back onto our first subject.
“Hermione I don’t know if I can forgive him,” I sighed leaning back again.
“You’ve got to try,” Ron said.
“I know but just because I have to, doesn’t mean I have to try right now,” I snapped at them. They both stared at me sympathetically; I looked at them slowly and shook my head “Give me time, I’ll figure this out eventually.”
Hermione’s eyes went straight to the portrait hole when it opened, Ron turned around in his seat as I glanced over my shoulder. Walking into the room, were Victoria and Harry. My heart sank, and I felt Ron grab my hand and gave it a reassuring squeeze. Victoria looked as though she was crying and Harry himself looked exhausted. I stood up and tried to walk away.
Ron had my hand in a vice like grip; I tried to wrench my hand away from him. I glared at him as he stared at me, he let go of my hand so fast, as if I burned him and I stalked out of the room with half the common room staring at me as I climbed up the stairs to the 5th year girl’s dormitory.
The next day I got up early and walked down to the common room, I sat down on the couch in the empty room. I sighed as I ran my fingers through my hair. It was six o’clock, and the school wouldn’t be getting up for another hour. How I was going to face people I didn’t know. The school could barely keep secrets so I have a feeling there were at least five different stories going around school about the commotion in the common room last night.
I ran my hand down my tired face as I leaned back; I stared up at the ceiling of the black room. I closed my eyes, and the next thing I knew I was being shaken awake by someone. I blinked my eyes opened and stared at Ron’s upside down face.
“Morning,” He said staring down at me.
“Morning,” I said sitting up and turning around to face him. “What are you doing
up so early?”
“Harry,” Ron sighed sitting on the back of the couch “He wanted me to come down to make sure you weren’t here. He’s really sorry Meagan, he tried to tell us what the problem was, but Hermione kept butting in, so I’m not sure we really got what we needed.”
“Ron I told you it’s going to take me a while to get over what I saw,” I sighed looking at the door leading to the boy’s bedrooms. I knew Harry was standing behind that door listening. “Look if Harry wants to come down I’ll leave and wait outside the Great Hall to eat,” I said standing up and walking to the portrait hole.
“That’s not what I meant,” Ron sighed.
“I know it’s not,” I smiled weakly. “But I know Harry well, and I know he’s standing right behind that door listening. So I’ll just go down to the Great Hall. I’ll see you at breakfast Ron, tell Hermione I’ll meet her down there,” I said climbing out of the portrait.
Before the portrait shut I heard Harry’s voice and a tear slid from my eye as I ran down to the Great Hall. I sat down on the Entrance Hall steps as I waited for it to be seven o’clock so I could enjoy an early breakfast. The Great Hall doors opened a crack and I slowly walked toward it, I always hated being the first person at breakfast but today it didn’t matter.
Hermione came running into the Great Hall just as I was finished eating my eggs, she sat across from me and smiled. I looked at her as I grabbed some toast.
“How are you?” She asked smiling.
“I’m fine,” I said slowly unsure of where this was leading to.
“Look--” Hermione started but I cut her off.
“No, Hermione I won’t talk to him or Victoria, I don’t care!” I said angrily, as
people walked in the stared over at the table. “They hurt me, they betrayed me, and this will take a while to get over.”
“Try will you,” Hermione pleaded, she looked up and at the door. Ron and Harry walked into the Great Hall. I looked down at my toast as they walked by and sat ten feet down the table from us.
“Looks like Ron took Harry’s side,” I said bitterly.
“Ron hasn’t taken anyone’s side,” Hermione smiled “We’re just trying to get you two to make up is all,” Hermione said smiling at me again and grabbing some toast and put some eggs on her plate.
I looked down at Harry and Ron and they were in an intense talk, I frowned and looked back at Hermione who was eating her eggs. I shrugged and finished up my toast. I finished up quickly so I wouldn’t have to see Victoria if she had breakfast this morning, as I got up, I took one final glance at Harry who was in deep discussion with another 7th year.
I ran from the Great Hall and felt someone follow me. I stopped on the steps “Hermione leave me alone!” I snapped turning around, but behind me wasn’t Hermione it was Draco.
“Malfoy,” I gasped staring at him.
“What a nice way to great the love of your life,” Malfoy sneered.
“Former love of my life,” I said emphasizing former, I turned on my heel and
continued to walk away from him.
“Don’t you walk away from me,” He said grabbing my arm.
“You lost control of me two years ago Draco,” I said tearing my arm away from him.
“This isn’t over,” He yelled at me as I ran up the stairs.
As I reached the second floor my heart pounded, I was scared for my life. I leaned against the wall and slid to the floor. I rested my face in my hands as I broke into sobs, my life was falling apart.
