Kelly sat nervously outside of Katie’s hospital room, the doctors had shooed her out and she immediately had to contact Robert and Daniel. But before her trembling fingers could dial the number the phone rang. She frantically told Robert as much as she knew; quickly he hung up on her. She knew they’d be there any moment.
She cupped her hands over her mouth and nose as she closed her eyes, holding back the tears that were desperately trying to escape in the past hour. Turning her head she saw Daniel closely followed by Robert running down the hall. She stood up and ran into Roberts arms, crying into his shoulder.
“Babe,” He said brushing her hair. “Where is she?”
“In that room,” She said through her tears.
Daniel and Robert exchanged glances as Daniel slowly walked toward his fiancé’s hospital room. His heart was beating in his throat as he pushed open the door. Tears welled in the corners of his eyes as he saw Katie laying there on the bed, wires coming out of her from her arms and chest. The nurse taking her pulse looked up at him frowning slightly.
“Who are you?” She asked quickly placing Katie’s arm back down.
“I’m her fiancé,” Daniel said swallowing slowly.
“Sir, I’m going to ask you to step outside,” The nurse said trying to push him away.
“No,” He said sternly holding his ground “I want to know what’s wrong with the woman that I love!”
“Sir please,” The nurse said “I need you to stay outside.”
“What’s wrong with her?” He demanded, pushing the nurses’ arms from off of him. “I’m not leaving till you tell me.”
“We don’t know,” She sighed finally “The young lady who brought her in said she just fainted. Now sir I need you to stand outside we still have to do a few more test and make sure the baby is alright.”
“Baby?” Daniel stared blankly at the bed.
“Yes sir now please.” The nurse said shutting the door in his face.
“Baby,” He said to himself as he collapsed into a waiting chair. “She’s pregnant?” He said aloud as he
looked at the closed door “Why didn’t she tell me?”
Daniel calmed himself down and wiped away the tears from his cheeks. Slowly he closed his eyes and took a deep breath. Suddenly it was all making sense to him, the sleeplessness, and the sudden hunger. He didn’t realize why he couldn’t see it before. Opening his eyes he looked down the hall and saw Robert and Kelly returning, he shot up and glared at them.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Daniel growled at Kelly.
“Mate what’s got into you?” Robert asked pushing Daniel away from Kelly, but Daniel shoved away Robert’s
arm.
“Why did you tell me?” He said louder to Kelly.
“I didn’t know!” Kelly said frantically looking around. “She just told me today, Daniel I’m sorry!”
“Could someone please tell me what’s going on?” Robert said sighing.
“Katie’s pregnant,” Daniel spat at Robert as he continued to glare at Kelly. Neither noticed that Robert
looked like he got the air punched out of him as he blinked repeatedly “And Kelly didn’t tell me!”
“She told me I couldn’t tell you,” Kelly pleaded “Daniel listen to me, if I had known before, if either of us had known, we would’ve told you! But she promised me not to tell!” Kelly explained tears flowing down her cheeks as she held Daniel’s hand.
“Why didn’t she tell me? I’m her fiancé,” Daniel said slumping into a near by waiting chair “Why would she think she needs to hide that from me?” Daniel said running his fingers through his hair.
“Look Daniel,” Kelly said kneeling in front of him. “I really do think something is bugging her, I’m not sure if it has to do with her being pregnant so soon again or,” Kelly said taking a deep breath “Or if it’s something totally different.”
“What would be bugging her so much that caused her to pass out?” Robert butted in sitting down next to Daniel looking at Kelly seriously.
“That’s what I’ve been trying to figure out,” Kelly sighed frowning at Robert “It’s got to be something huge for her to forget about everything else.”
“How long has she been acting weird?” Robert asked Daniel slowly.
“Um,” Daniel said his voice cracking “Since we’ve gotten back. If I remember correctly, she was perfectly fine when we were still in LA, and when we got back she was fine. For a while, then something happened.”
“She found out she was pregnant?” Kelly added for him.
“Basically,” Daniel said quietly nodding his head.
“Daniel Mate,” Robert said gripping his shoulder lightly “Everything will be all right, Katie will be fine, the baby will be fine, she’ll be out of the hospital in no time and you two can get married like you wanted.”
“Would she still marry me?” Daniel asked quickly looking at his best friend.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Robert asked looking at him funny.
“There’s a reason she didn’t tell me she was pregnant,” Daniel snapped.
“You’re jumping to conclusions,” Kelly said quietly. “You don’t know what the reason was.”
“Maybe she was scared,” Robert reasoned “I mean Kira’s barely a year old, and she’s about to have another
baby. I would think that would scare any women.”
“I would be scared,” Kelly said seriously standing up and glancing at Katie’s hospital room before looking back at Robert and Daniel. “Daniel she probably just didn’t know how you’d react to it all, just calm down everything will work out. She’ll be all right.”
“I really hope that you’re right,” Daniel sighed looking at the door “How long are they going to take?”
“The doctor hasn’t seen her yet,” Kelly sighed sitting on Robert’s lap. “That nurse hasn’t left her though.”
“Looks like all we can do now is wait,” Robert sighed as a doctor ended Katie’s room.
The time passed slowly as the three friends waited outside of Katie’s hospital room. Everyone was wondering if she was all right. Doctors came and went but no one would answer their questions when they were asked. Soon, it became dark outside and visiting hours were over, but no one bothered to shoo them out. Kelly was fast asleep in Robert’s lap, and he was nodding off. Daniel was the only one not tired; he stared at his fiancé’s door.
“Daniel,” Kelly said quietly not wanting to wake Robert. “Have you gotten any sleep?”
“No,” He said quietly shaking his head.
“Babe, you really should get some sleep, it’s midnight, I have a feeling it’s going to be a while,” She
said seriously.
“I don’t care,” He said monotonously.
“Where’s Kira?” Kelly asked stretching.
“We dropped her off at my parent’s house before we came here,” Daniel said “I really should call them.”
“You should, don’t wake them though, wait till we here something,” She said standing up “I think I’m going
to get us some coffee.” She smiled at him and started to walk away.
“Kelly,” Daniel said.
“Yeah,” She said turning around to face him.
“Thanks,” He said smiling weakly.
“For what,” She asked.
“For making sure that Katie’s okay, and calling the ambulance when she fainted,” Daniel said seriously.
“No problem,” She smiled as she walked down the hall to the elevators.
Robert let out a little snore as he jerked himself awake. He looked around stupidly as he blinked his eyes adjusting them to the bright hospital lights. He yawned as he looked at Daniel.
“Were did Kelly go?” He asked after a moment.
“She went to get us some coffee,” Daniel said quietly.
“Nothing yet?” Robert asked standing up stretching.
“Nothing at all,” Daniel said staring at his best friend “We’ve been here for almost 10 hours, and we’ve heard nothing! Doctors have come and gone out of that room! Why aren’t we allowed to know why?”
The door suddenly opened and a doctor stood in the door way, looking grimly at Robert and Daniel and holding a medical chart.
“Are you Katie’s family?” He asked quietly.
“Yes sir,” Daniel said standing up. “Can we find out what’s wrong with her?”
“Yes, she’s in a state of shock. What ever happened to her, basically over loaded her and she fainted, she just woke up about an hour ago. She’s very confused, and disoriented,” The doctor explained.
“Can we go see her?” Daniel asked quickly.
“Yes one at a time,” The Doctor nodded “She’s been asking for a Robert, since she woke up.”
“What?” Daniel snapped glaring at Robert
“Me?” Robert said quickly “Why me?”
“She wouldn’t say,” The Doctor frowned “She just kept asking for you, but please refrain from making her nervous or over excited.”
“Doctor,” Daniel said as the doctor was leaving. “How’s the baby.”
“The baby is fine and healthy,” The Doctor smiled “It’ll be all right.”
“Oh thank god,” Daniel said sitting quietly in a chair. After a moments pause he looked up at Robert “Aren’t you going to go see her?”
“No,” Robert said staring at the door “You’re her fiancé you go see her,”
“But she’s asking for you,” Daniel snapped “Go see her,”
“You don’t mind?” Robert asked before he entered.
“Of course I mind, but she’s asking for you just go,” Daniel sighed looking away.
Robert nodded as he slowly opened the door. The room was bright and on the far side of it, sat Katie sitting up in bed. She smiled weakly at him as he shut the door behind him; he slowly walked up to the bed and sat down on the edge holding her hand.
“Robert,” Katie smiled.
“Katie,” He said kissing her hand “Why did you want to see me first?”
“Because you’re the only one who knows,” Katie said quietly as they both looked at the door.
“Is it because of that; is that the reason you fainted?” Robert asked seriously.
“Yes,” Katie nodded slowly starting to cry “When I found out I was pregnant Robert I was so confused! I don’t know!”
“Oh Katie,” Robert said pulling her into a tight hug. “It’ll be okay; everything will work out, Daniel’s forgiving he’ll forgive you.”
“Forgive me for a drunken tryst?” She sobbed into his shoulder.
“It’ll be okay,” Robert said soothingly rubbing her back.
“I wish I never went to that party, I wish I never saw him again, I wish my feelings didn’t take over me,” She said pulling away from Robert and looking away from him.
“You love Daniel,” Robert said seriously “You’ve loved Daniel for the longest time, you were drunk, the alcohol was deciding who you loved. It’s not your fault.”
“I knew what I was doing, and I can never change it. Finding out I’m pregnant probably just ruined the best relationship I’ve ever had,” She said seriously “You didn’t tell anyone what I told you did you?” She asked quickly looking at him again.
“No,” Robert smiled.
“Thank you,” She said smiling at him as she threw her arms around his neck. He kissed her lightly on the side of her head.
Daniel glared at the hospital room door as Kelly walked back from the coffee vending machine. She looked around as she sat down.
“Where did Robert go?” She asked quickly.
“He’s in there,” Daniel growled pointing at Katie’s hospital room door.
“He’s where?” Kelly’s eyes flashed with anger. “What’s he doing in there?”
“I asked him the same thing,” Daniel said angrily.
“Why aren’t we allowed in?” Kelly asked frantically her mind flying with thoughts of why she would ask for
Robert before her own boyfriend.
“One at a time,” Daniel sighed looking at her. “Coffee,” Daniel said as he grabbed a cup from off the chair next to Kelly.
“How long as he been in there?” Kelly asked after taking a sip of her strong coffee.
“No more than 10 minutes,” Daniel sighed.
“He’ll be out in no time,” Kelly sighed with him “Don’t worry.”
“I’m not worried,” Daniel frowned at her.
“Liar,” Kelly laughed “The same things that are going through my head are going through yours and you know it!”
“Okay fine,” Daniel snapped at her as he absentmindedly stirred his coffee. “I’m worried, about so many
things, and that just heightened it.”
“You don’t think they,” Kelly said choking on her words.
“No!” Daniel said shaking his head “No they couldn’t have, it’s not possible.”
“Yeah you’re right,” Kelly said blushing “We’re just tired and we shouldn’t think they would do that. They love us.”
“You’re right,” Daniel smiled weakly as he sipped on his coffee. Katie’s door suddenly opened and Robert slowly exited the room, Daniel quickly stood up and shoved Robert against the closed door “Why would my fiancé, the love of my life, want to see you before she saw me?” Daniel pushed him against the door as Roberts head slammed against the door “Answer me!”
“Daniel,” Kelly said laying a hand on Daniel’s arm “Let it go,” She said soothingly.
Daniel pushed Robert against the door one more time as he backed away taking a deep breath. Robert blinked and slowly walked down the hall. Daniel and Kelly exchanged looked before Kelly ran after Robert. Taking a deep breath, Daniel entered Katie’s hospital room.
“Katie love!” Daniel said rushing to her bed and he hugged her tightly. “I know,” He said angrily as he looked her directly in her tearful eyes.
“Daniel I’m sorry,” Katie cried.
“How could you?” Daniel snapped at her slowly backing away from her.
“I didn’t mean to, I was drunk!” She sobbed into her hands.
“How could you sleep with my best mate?” Daniel yelled.
“What?” Katie said snapped to attention. “You’re best mate?”
“Robert! How could you sleep with Robert?” Daniel said quickly.
“Daniel I didn’t sleep with Robert--”
“Oh thank god,” Daniel said cutting her off “I was afraid you cheated on me.” He said quickly.
“Daniel,” Katie said silent tears falling from her eyes. “I slept with Tom.”
“What?” Daniel yelled at the top of his lungs his eyes flashing with loathing “How the fuck could you do
that to me? How could you sleep with that ass hole?”
“I didn’t mean to!” Katie sobbed reaching out for Daniel.
“How can you not mean to? Katie we have a daughter together we’re supposed to get married how can you do this to me?” He said tears sliding down his cheeks.
“Daniel! I was drunk! It was in LA, during Kelly’s party, Tom was at the club we were at, I had too much to drink, and I don’t know what happened!” She cried.
“I can’t do this,” Daniel said walking to the door.
“Daniel please no, I love you!” She screamed out to him.
“Katie don’t do this,” He said hanging his head as his hand rested on the door knob “I can’t live with myself knowing the love of my life cheated on me, I’m sorry Katie.” Daniel said opening the door quickly and shutting it behind him.
“Daniel!” Katie screamed out to him.

“How long as he been in there?” Kelly asked after taking a sip of her strong coffee.
“No more than 10 minutes,” Daniel sighed.
“He’ll be out in no time,” Kelly sighed with him “Don’t worry.”
“I’m not worried,” Daniel frowned at her.
“Liar,” Kelly laughed “The same things that are going through my head are going through yours and you know it!”
“Okay fine,” Daniel snapped at her as he absentmindedly stirred his coffee. “I’m worried, about so many
things, and that just heightened it.”
“You don’t think they,” Kelly said choking on her words.
“No!” Daniel said shaking his head “No they couldn’t have, it’s not possible.”
“Yeah you’re right,” Kelly said blushing “We’re just tired and we shouldn’t think they would do that. They love us.”
“You’re right,” Daniel smiled weakly as he sipped on his coffee. Katie’s door suddenly opened and Robert slowly exited the room, Daniel quickly stood up and shoved Robert against the closed door “Why would my fiancé, the love of my life, want to see you before she saw me?” Daniel pushed him against the door as Roberts head slammed against the door “Answer me!”
“Daniel,” Kelly said laying a hand on Daniel’s arm “Let it go,” She said soothingly.
Daniel pushed Robert against the door one more time as he backed away taking a deep breath. Robert blinked and slowly walked down the hall. Daniel and Kelly exchanged looked before Kelly ran after Robert. Taking a deep breath, Daniel entered Katie’s hospital room.
“Katie love!” Daniel said rushing to her bed and he hugged her tightly. “I know,” He said angrily as he looked her directly in her tearful eyes.
“Daniel I’m sorry,” Katie cried.
“How could you?” Daniel snapped at her slowly backing away from her.
“I didn’t mean to, I was drunk!” She sobbed into her hands.
“How could you sleep with my best mate?” Daniel yelled.
“What?” Katie said snapped to attention. “You’re best mate?”
“Robert! How could you sleep with Robert?” Daniel said quickly.
“Daniel I didn’t sleep with Robert--”
“Oh thank god,” Daniel said cutting her off “I was afraid you cheated on me.” He said quickly.
“Daniel,” Katie said silent tears falling from her eyes. “I slept with Tom.”
“What?” Daniel yelled at the top of his lungs his eyes flashing with loathing “How the fuck could you do
that to me? How could you sleep with that ass hole?”
“I didn’t mean to!” Katie sobbed reaching out for Daniel.
“How can you not mean to? Katie we have a daughter together we’re supposed to get married how can you do this to me?” He said tears sliding down his cheeks.
“Daniel! I was drunk! It was in LA, during Kelly’s party, Tom was at the club we were at, I had too much to drink, and I don’t know what happened!” She cried.
“I can’t do this,” Daniel said walking to the door.
“Daniel please no, I love you!” She screamed out to him.
“Katie don’t do this,” He said hanging his head as his hand rested on the door knob “I can’t live with myself knowing the love of my life cheated on me, I’m sorry Katie.” Daniel said opening the door quickly and shutting it behind him.
“Daniel!” Katie screamed out to him.
