The next day Robert carried down the luggage and placed them next to the open front door. Their plane leaved in a little over two hours so they were taking their time but wanted to get there early. Robert folded his arms and tapped his foot impatiently as he waited for Kelly to come down. Their cab would arrive any minute and they still had to go through security and that would take about 45 minute and the ride to was almost 15.
He sighed when she came down as the taxi horn blared as she stood in front of him. She stood on her toes as she kissed him before they left their house. Stepping outside Robert brought the luggage to the cabbie as Kelly locked up their house. She adjusted her carry on luggage on her shoulder as she walked out to the sidewalk where the cab was parked.
After cramming their three suitcases into the trunk of the taxi, Robert and Kelly climbed in the back, he slipped his arm around her waist as he told the driver LAX International Airport. The ride to was silent, it was early so they were half asleep. Once they pulled into the loading only area Robert paid the driver as Kelly got out their luggage from the trunk.
“How long do you think this will take?” Kelly sighed as they walked into the airport after checking their luggage.
“It shouldn’t take long,” Robert frowned at the lines “Our plane leaves in an hour we’ll be fine love,”
He said placing a hand on the small of her back as he pushed her through the crowd to the security lines. It seemed like the line was never ending and they were at the back of it. Robert checked his watch constantly as they waited to go through. He sighed as they finally had their turn 15 minutes after standing in the line.
“I told you we’d get through there in time,” Robert smiled as he sipped his coffee looking at Kelly over
the top of the cup. They were sitting done for some breakfast the airport because they didn’t have time to
eat at home. Kelly grinned at him as she wiped her mouth with her napkin. “Now we just have time to kill,”
Robert sighed looking around the airport.
“What is there to do in an airport?” Kelly giggled taking a sip out of her drink.
“We could shop,” Robert grinned “Buy our little god daughter a new stuffed animal or some clothing.” Robert’s eyes fell on a small boutique that showed baby clothing in the window.
“Why not,” Kelly smiled as she ate the last of her pastry and finished the rest of her juice in one sip.
“Shall we?” Robert asked standing up holding his arm out for his wife.
“We shall,” She giggled, taking his arm and placing her carry on luggage and purse on her shoulder.
They walked into the small shop of clothing and looked in the baby section. They had no idea what size Kira was wearing now, but they decided to get her some t-shirts that would fit someone a little older than her, so she could grow into them. Once they paid for them, Kelly stuffed the bag into her carry on as she and Robert headed to the terminal to board their plane.
“Flight 313 headed for Heathrow International is now boarding at gate 36,” The loud speaker said as Robert
and Kelly made their way to the gate.
“C’mon we better get there quickly,” Robert said taking Kelly’s hand as they walked quickly to the gate.
“Why are we rushing?” Kelly huffed as Robert dragged her along.
“Our plane leaves in 10 minutes and we’re a while away.” He said not looking back at her.
They reached the gate with five minutes to spare, they handed their tickets to the attendant as they walked to the plane. They took their seats in first class, Robert sighed as he sat down.
“This is going to be a long flight,” He said quietly to Kelly.
“Oh yeah,” Kelly groaned as she buckled herself in. “I forgot how long a flight this is.”
“Yeah,” Robert said looking at his watch “it looks like we’ll have to get a hotel too when we get there.
Already it’s 6 o’clock in the afternoon there, so they are eating dinner while we’re taking off. By the time we get there it’ll be after midnight. You don’t mind that do you?”
“Not at all,” Kelly said kissing him “I know the perfect place we can stay.”
Before Robert could inquire where they would be staying the flight attendants came on for the
flight instructions. Soon after the plane took off and Robert brought out the book he was reading. He had a feeling by the time this flight was over he’d have to buy a book in London.
Kelly on the other hand fell asleep a little over an hour into the flight. She was so exhausted from having to close up everything in the house and finish packing.
Robert laughed to himself as Kelly’s head fell onto his shoulder as he put his book down. They
were somewhere over the Midwest now. He looked down and all he saw here plains. He sighed as he rested his head lightly on Kelly’s as he closed his eyes.
“Katie you haven’t touched a thing,” Daniel said surveying her over the dinner table, as Katie looked up from her plate of steak, baked potato and vegetables. “Hon are you sure you’re all right?”
“Daniel, sweetie I’m fine,” She smiled picking up some veggies with her fork and ate them.
“You’re just trying to prove my wrong by eating those,” Daniel said pointing his fork at her.
“Now why would I do that?” Katie grinned over her glass of water.
“Because I know you better than you know yourself,” He said frowning at her.
“Daniel please,” She frowned back “Stop worrying about me, I know how to take care of myself. I’m a big girl.”
“I know what you are,” Daniel grinned “You’re a pain in the--”
“Ah,” Katie said holding up her hand “Not in front of the baby.”
“Butt,” Daniel said quietly side glancing at his baby girl.
“That’s better,” Katie laughed quietly.
“I haven’t heard you laugh in days,” He said reflectively.
“I haven’t had a reason to,” She frowned again as she began to cut up her steak.
In all honesty she was starving which she knew wasn’t good for her or the baby. In no time she had
finished up the rest of the veggies, and potato and was finishing up her second baked potato before she finished her steak. When she was done she leaned back in her chair looking at Daniel who was smiling at her.
“See you were hungry,” Daniel laughed as he stood up picking up his plate and hers as he brought them to
the sink to be washed.
“I suppose I was,” Kelly said standing up and taking Kira out of her highchair and walked over to Daniel,
holding onto Kira.
“Hey sweetie,” Daniel said making a funny face at Kira as he washed the dishes she giggled as Daniel
laughed. “Robert and Kelly don’t know what they are missing.”
“How so?” Katie asked him cocking her head to the side.
“Not having kids,” He said.
“But they just got married they shouldn’t have a baby yet,” Katie said quickly.
“We’re not married and we have Kira,” Daniel frowned at her his hands covered in soap.
“That’s different,” Katie blushed realizing what she said was stupid.
“How?” Daniel frowned at her wiping the soap off of his hands.
“Well,” Katie thought she didn’t know how it was different she frowned at him as she looked down at Kira in her arms. “I don’t know. They aren’t ready for a baby yet.”
“And we were,” Daniel said looking at her seriously.
“Well no,” She said realizing it was another stupid thing to say.
“Are you saying our daughter was a mistake?” Daniel yelled at her, she stepped away from him, quickly
walking into the living room so she could place Kira into her play pen.
“No Daniel I’m not saying that at all,” She said pushing him lightly out of the room.
“Then what are you saying?” Daniel snapped at her, her hands went protectively over her stomach.
“I’m saying,” Katie snapped back “is that my parents would’ve been a lot happier if we’d been married before Kira was born. And they aren’t to thrilled that we’ve waited this long to get married.”
“Talk about old fashioned,” Daniel snorted “Your parents are on another continent and you’re letting them
tell you how to live your life?”
“No,” Katie breathed out “I’m not; I’m just stating what they have told me in the last few months.”
“Well,” Daniel said folding his arms glaring at her.
“Well that?” Katie snapped at him again glaring at him.
“Well nothing!” Daniel said throwing up his hands in defeat “Your parents are always right aren’t they?”
“I didn’t say that!” She said stunned “Your parents weren’t to pleaded that they had a granddaughter before a Daughter-In-Law!”
“No they weren’t,” Daniel said sighing “Look I’m sorry.”
“You should be,” Katie said tears welling in her eyes “And how dare you accuse me of me thinking our
daughter was a mistake. I love her more than anything in this world! How could you even say that?”
“I don’t know,” Daniel said slowly walking toward her; he hugged her tightly as she cried into her shoulder.
“Oh Daniel,” She sighed “What’s happening to us?”
“I don’t know babe,” He sighed brushing her bangs out of her eyes “The stress of the wedding I’m sure has
something to do with it.”
“Yeah,” She smiled weakly at him.
“You should get some rest I don’t want you to exhaust yourself when Kelly and Robert come,” Daniel said frowning at her.
Katie nodded at him, as she slowly walked back into the living room and sat down on the couch.
Daniel took a seat next to her as she leaned her head on his shoulder. He sighed as she flipped through the channels on the TV. He didn’t know what was happening to them. But he hoped they’d be able to get through it.
