It was a few days after the Hogsmeade trip . I sat in the Gryffindor common room with Harry. Victoria was avoiding Draco and myself up in the fifth year dormitory. I was trying to give her as much space as possible waiting at least until she came to me. I wasn't going to exactly come out and tell her that I over heard nor I wasn't going to press her for the situation. She was entirely heartbroken when she returned to the castle after the trip, she wouldn't talk to me or look me in the eye. In the middle of the night I could hear her sobbing; it made me feel guilty for something that I could do nothing about.

“You okay?” Harry asked quietly as I stared blankly into the fire.

“Oh what?” I said shaking away my thoughts and smiling up at him. “Yeah I’m just drifting off, thinking.”

“Please stop thinking about Hogsmeade,” Harry sighed removing his glasses as he ran his hand down his face. While Harry tried his best to ignore that Draco admitted his love for me, I could tell it was taking a toll on him as well. He tried to treat me as normally as possible, but I could tell there was a fog behind his eyes when he looked at me. He knew I couldn't do anything about it, but apart of me thought that he blamed me.

“I'm sorry,” I said quietly pulling my legs up to my chest. “I just can't help but feel guilty. Like it's my fault.”

Harry frowned at me as he studied me. I couldn't bear to be under his scrutinizing gaze. I could feel his eyes baring into me looking through me like he could tell anything about me. I looked away from him and back into the fire. I had to get Victoria to talk to me, to let me help her get back Draco even if she would think I would steal him away. She had to talk to him, and I would make her do it.

“Stop thinking about them,” He said nudging me quietly.

“Stop reading my mind!” I said scowling at him as he laughed quietly “I don’t find it funny.”

“I’m reading your face and your emotions,” He said kissing my forehead “When you think about something that worries you, your noise crinkles and your eyes seem to fog over and you get a look of deep concentration on your face.”

“Wow,” I laughed quietly as I sat closer to him, readjusting myself on the couch sitting Indian-Style facing him.

“It’s something I picked up on,” He winked as he leaned closer to me. “It took me a while to figure out how to read you.”

“I try not to show everything on my face,” I sighed grabbing his hand, I pulled it into my lap and held it tightly. “Weakness isn't something that's needed now.”

“I know,” Harry said quietly squeezing my hand “But let's not worry about that now.”

“I'm distracted from the war,” I rolled my eyes as I looked quickly to the girls dormitory door “I've got more personal things on my mind.”

“Stop,” He squeezed my hand tighter. “Look I don't care if you want to help them, but I really don't want you to keep bringing it up to me. The last thing I want is for your mind to be filled with thoughts of Draco.”

My heart jumped into my throat, he did know me too well. Since that afternoon when Draco admitted that he was still in love with me it was hard to get him out of my thoughts. I had trained myself not to think of him during the day, but the night was a different story. He plagued my dreams. I wasn't supposed to think of him and every night I did. Some times he would appear in my nightmares; Hogwarts burning around me Harry dead in my arms and he's standing above me like a guardian angel ready to lead me to safety. I groaned inwardly as I rested my head on Harry's shoulder. Maybe if I got Victoria and Draco to start talking again he would stop showing up where he shouldn't be.

The library was packed full of fifth and seventh years studying because their lives depended on the tests that they were about to take. I sat quietly at a table by myself staring at my Arithmancy books. Five of them covered the space in front of me, it was the only test that worried me and my lively hood depended on it. I had decided at the end of fourth year that the career of curse breaker would appeal the most to me. I always had an odd fascination with curses, often I would place them on various family members trying to figure out how to remove them without the counter curse. It seemed only best that I would deal with them in my job. Ancient Runes was the second O.W.L. that plagued me, it was needed if I ever wanted to work in Egypt.

Sighing I ran my hand down my face and looked around at the tables crowded with friends helping each other study: quizzing each other at random or yelling out when they found the answer to a question. My stomach lurched, it had been almost a week since Victoria had talked to me. Every time she looked at me tears would spring into her eyes and she would run. Shaking the thoughts from my head I returned to my paper and worked on decoding.

The time crept by and the sun set before anyone seemed to move from their spots to leave the library. I had vowed to myself that I would stay until I couldn't focus on another number, which were running together but I could still distinguish them. I rested my head on the table and closed my eyes and all I could see were numbers, time lines and formulas. Snapping my head up I stared at Harry who appeared at my table.

“Jesus Harry,” I rubbed my eyes to make sure I wasn't going crazy—he stood there beaming at me “Don't do that!”

“Sorry, I saw you but had to walk around to find a book,” He looked at his watch “Which was over twenty minutes ago. I think if you're falling asleep you should really call it a day.”

“I just have two more time lines to practice,” I grabbed from my quill but Harry's reflexes were better—I glared up at him, stupid Quidditch. “Give that back! I have to finish.”

“You're worse than Hermione,” He frowned putting the quill with his books.

“I'll take that as a compliment,” I sighed resigning I closed the book closest to me and looked up at Harry. “Shouldn't you be studying?”

“I see no point,” Harry shrugged as I frowned in disapproval “I already don't plan on being here when the N.E.W.Ts are being administered,” He winked at me, like that would close the subject completely.

“Well if you aren't going to let me do any studying at least help me put these books away,” I pushed the chair back from the table and gathered the books up quickly. Harry took the largest two as I stacked the other three. The Arithmancy section of the library was near at least. Harry walked unnaturally close to me as we walked down the two aisles putting the books away. It was almost like he was protecting me, or staking his claim to who ever happened to be watching us. Allowing the last book to glide out of my hands and into the top most shelf I turned to Harry. “Is something the matter?”

“No,” He shrugged wrapping his arm around my shoulders pulling me close. “Can't I just be close to my girlfriend?”

I pulled myself from under his arm and eyed him closely, something was making him like this and I had a feeling what it was. Leaning against the bookshelf I rubbed my face slowly before looking at him again.

“Where's Draco?” I asked quickly and Harry frowned.

“Gone now,” Harry sighed grabbing for my hand, I pulled it away “He was watching you though. As you rested.”

“Meaning you were watching me to begin with!” I said threw my teeth as I turned to walk away from Harry. He couldn't even trust me to be in the library by myself with Draco being around. I felt Harry grab my hand, I quickly turned to face him “How can you not trust me? I knew you had a problem with that we overheard. I'm not going to go flinging myself at Draco. I have more important things to do at the moment if you haven't noticed! My livelihood depends on these tests!”

“I've got more than enough money for us to live on,” Harry said kindly.

“I'm not going to just be some housewife, I'm going to work Harry like it or not. One day even in Egypt if I can just get these O.W.Ls. Please, I'm not going to betray you.” Not again, I said to myself as I looked away from him. I could feel eyes on me, quickly looking around I saw Victoria just turning back to her Divination studying. My heart fell and I turned back to Harry. “No more of this. Draco can watch me all he wants, but I'm with you remember that.”

“And I do,” He smiled at me as he ran his finger through my hair cupping my face he pulled me into a light kiss. “You know I'm not in my right mind at the moment.”

“When are you ever?” I smirked. Lacing my fingers through his I lead him out of the library.

I sat on the cold window seat staring out of the fifth year tower watching Slytherin and their last practice before the big game in two days. From this distance they were a bunch of green and silver blurs racing through the air chasing nothing. Resting my head against the window I watched Draco as he hovered high above the actual practice watching for the snitch. The door creaked open behind me, and shut slowly. I could tell by the quiet of the person that it was Victoria. Everyone else was avoiding me. Even if they didn't know the story they weren't set to forgive me for dating a Death Eater. Staring out of the window I waited for her to make the first comment, I couldn't exactly tell her I knew why she was avoiding me.

“What's so interesting outside?” She asked quietly, I turned my head to look at her. She stood by the door twisting her hair on a finger.

Smiling I turned back to the window, “Slytherin doing some last minute practice. Not that that would help them much.”

“What?” Victoria put what ever caution she had toward me to the wind and rushed to the window pushing me out of the way in the process.

“A simple excuse me would've sufficed,” I huffed rubbing my elbow “Why are you so interested anyways? I haven't seen you talk to Draco since the trip.” I swallowed trying not to show any hints “Are you two having an argument.”

“You could say that,” She said dropping her hands from the glass as she turned to face me “A little disagreement. I'm more avoiding him then anything.”

“What did he do?” I asked slowly. I watched at Victoria's jaw moved up and down, her eyes flickered quickly trying to come up with a decent reason. Fear crept over her eyes as she still struggled. I knew my best friend, and at that moment her heart was breaking. I shook my head and pulled her into a hug. “None of my business. But it must've been something huge for you to look like he broke your heart.”

“Yeah, something like that,” She shrugged me away as she walked to her bed grabbing her book from her trunk she threw her legs up “Look I don't want to talk about it. I came up here to catch up on my reading.”

“Okay,” I shrugged walking to the door opening it I turned to her “Are we still up for watching the game Saturday with Harry?”

“Wouldn't miss it,” Her eyes flickered quickly to the window over looking the pitch.

“Promise you won't embarrass me when you root for Slytherin?”

“Oh, I'm sorry I can't,” She pulled her book over her face but I heard her laugh quietly.

I rested my head against Harry's shoulder as the stadium around us began to fill up for the match of Hufflepuff against Slytherin. It was a fairly warm day with a light wind that could cause some trouble as the game went on. Harry held onto me tightly. His eyes flickered around the pitch, he was jittery in his seat almost as he expected something to happen. Sitting up I turned to him and held his hand.

“Expecting something awful to happen?” I asked following his gaze to the Slytherin side of the pitch. “Is someone there that shouldn't be?”

“Not that I can see,” Harry shook his head, smiling he turned toward me. Lowering his voice he leaned close to my ear “Besides, if something were to happen it would be stupid. All of these teachers out, it wouldn't be productive.”

“Right,” I laughed nervously sliding closer to him.

“I didn't mean to worry you,” He frowned “It's just near the end of school—I expect—something could happen.”

“Please Harry,” I looked around at the students around us, happy and laughing already waving flags with badgers and Hufflepuff colors “Not the best place to discuss this.”

“Sorry,” Rubbing my shoulder he kissed the side of my head “Something else is wrong isn't it?”

I shook my head and looked toward the end of the row, Victoria was no where in sight. This had to be the best time to tell him. “Victoria finally talked to me last night.”

“Well that's what you've been wanting isn't it? Why do you look down about it?” Harry looked confused.

“She almost told me what happened in Hogsmeade! Harry she's still devastated about it, I want to change it.” Sighing I ran my fingers through my hair.

“First off, you already know what happened. We were there, we heard it and saw the direct reaction of it.” He laughed nudging my shoulder, but I just glared “Second, the only way that you can change that is let them solve this on their own.”

“But--”

“Just because Draco said that he—you have no reason trying to solve their problems. Stop it and don't mention it!” Harry looked down the aisle and saw Victoria coming dressed in green. Every group she walked past booed and hissed at her but she laughed walking up to us. “Please.”

“Fine,” I ground my teeth as Victoria sat in her seat next to me bouncing as Madam Hooch took the field.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Slytherin scores another goal!” Dean Thomas' voice echoed through the audience. I shook my head at Victoria as she bounced up and down laughing at the Hufflepuff fans around us. “Slytherin leads 130-0” A collective groan filled one side of the pitch as the other side exploded in cheers.

I scanned the sky and saw Draco hovering above the field, he could've caught the snitch any time he wanted. There were a few times where I saw him dive but it was just to lead the Hufflepuff's seeker astray. Glancing at Victoria she was watching Draco intently, only taking her eyes off of him to do one of her celebratory dances. Shaking my head at her I turned back to the field just in time to see one more goal scored by Slytherin. It seemed like that Hufflepuff didn't even show up for the game. Harry wrapped his arm around me as I rested my head on his shoulder trying not to drift off to sleep in this extremely one sided game.

“Look at this!” Dean's voice boomed excitement crept into his voice “Malfoy and Bones they're diving from opposite ends of the pitch. I think they've both seen it! The golden snitch!”

Harry sat at attention trying to find the snitch floating in the air, even when not on the field Harry enjoyed searching for it. He grabbed my hand and pointed in the middle of the field just above where Madam Hooch hovered. Draco was in the lead. I watched as Draco flew as hard as he could. Suddenly Draco and Susan slammed into each other. Victoria's scream was ear splitting as everyone around us stood up to look at the damage. Shouting erupted from the first row as Susan stood up from the crash unscathed holding the golden snitch in her hand.

“Huff-HUFFLEPUFF WINS!” Dean stammered “Hufflepuff wins! 150-140! Hufflepuff wins!” Harry and I exploded with the rest of our side of the pitch screaming and jumping up and down in celebration. Harry hugged me tightly spinning me around, Gryffindor was one step closer to the cup for this year. Placing me down lightly next to Victoria I shook her shoulder and she looked up at me with tears in her eyes.

“Your not crying because of the loss are you?” I laughed pulling her up. Shaking her head she pointed to Draco. My face fell. He still lay in the middle of the pitch not moving. My heart jumped into my throat 'let him be alright' rang through my mind. Slowly he moved into a sitting position and I let go of the breath I didn't realize I was holding. The crowd thinned around us as Victoria made her way onto the field. I followed her climbing over the railing and walking slowly out to where Draco sat.

Victoria keeled next to him her arms wrapped around his neck. He didn't move or acknowledge her presence. I watched them closely feeling like an outsider in this moment. She tried to get him to stand up but he shrugged her off. Quickly she looked back at me before trying to kneel by him again.

“Go away,” His voice sounded broken.

“Draco, please, just let me--”

“GET AWAY FROM ME!” Draco screamed at Victoria. I watched her jump a foot in the air before quickly turning on her heels and running away from the field. I glared at him. Slowly he stood up and looked solemnly at me.

“She was just trying to comfort you! Why did you have to go and scream at her?” I yelled pushing him. He took the assault staring at me with an expression I couldn't read.

“I didn't want he to comfort me!” Draco practically screamed at me but I stood my ground “I didn't want her—I wanted,” He shook his head “I doesn't matter what I wanted apparently. Life doesn't always work out.” He slowly rubbed his left forearm and my anger broke.

“Draco,” Grabbing his hand I pulled him close. I rested my hand over his. He looked up at me worriedly. I smiled tightening my grip on his hand.

“Sorry.”

“About what?” I looked at him curiously.

“The outburst, I just really wanted to prove—well it was my last game. I wanted something going for me as I leave this school.” He shrugged off his statement.

“You'll have plenty for you leaving his school. Don't let this,” I padded his left forearm “stop you from anything. All of this will be over sooner than you think. And when it ends, things will be set right.”

Draco smiled at me, pulling me into a hug I returned it. Something felt right and natural about being in his arms. While Harry's embrace made me feel safe, Draco's made me feel loved and warm. I buried my face in his shoulder and he picked me up and twirled me around. Planting me back down on the ground he rested his forehead against mine. My mind went blank as he leaned in and quickly brushed his lips over mine before backing away. Feeling someone behind me I turned around, Harry stood stone still at the other end of the pitch his wand raised.
