“Harry,” I whispered as I sat up looking at him frantically. “What time is it?”
“It’s almost midnight,” Harry said quietly to me as he held onto my hand tightly “What’s the matter?”
“McGonagall’s nightly checks that’s what’s the matter,” I laughed. “If we aren’t there we’ll be in major trouble. We have to get back.”
“But I don’t want to,” He said kissing my cheek as I laughed.
“We don’t have a choice,” I reasoned “I’m sure you don’t want a months worth of detentions when we get back from break.”
“Right,” Harry said standing up, holding up a hand for me to grab.
I reached for Harry’s hand as he held me up off the group. Picking up his invisibility cloak he wrapped it around both of us and we walked into the school as quickly as we could. We bumped into Ms. Norris on the third flour but we took a short cut and ended up right in front of a sleeping Fat Lady.
“You wake her,” I whispered to Harry as he removed the
cloak from us.
“No,” He said shaking his head. “Last time I did, she wouldn’t let me enter.”
“That’s because you don’t know how to talk to her,” I frowned as I grabbed his hand and walked up to the Fat Lady and cleared my throat.
“Well,” She said blinking open her eyes as she glared down at us. “Where have you two been? It’s past curfew,”
“We were studying,” I said smiling sweetly.
“Studying?” She frowned “This late at night?” She looked down at us “Well, doing some late night snogging, and what will your boyfriend say?”
“Nothing,” I said dropping Harry’s hand and blushing. “Fizzing Whizbees”
“Don’t think you two are getting off easy,” She said as she swung open.
“Don’t know how to talk to do her?” Harry laughed in my ear.
“Shut up,” I smiled at him as we entered the common room.
We looked around and saw that it was completely empty and the fire was out. I grabbed his hand again as we walked to the door leading to the girl’s dormitory. I turned around and smiled at him.
“Good night Harry,” I said smiling at him.
“Night Meagan,” He said, kissing me lightly on the lips.
I blushed as I headed to the fifth year’s room,
quietly I eased open the door and walked into the room. I sighed with relief when none of the girls woke up. Quickly I changed and crawled into bed, I shut the curtains and smiled to myself as I stared at the ceiling. The feeling when I was with Harry still lingered, I grinned as I remembered the feeling that came over me when he held me. I was in love.
Rolling over I fell asleep right before McGonagall did the nightly bed check. Opening my eyes, I opened up my curtains and smiled as I looked out the window. It finally started to snow. Scrambling out of my bed I walked to the window. I smiled as it fell heavily, I always loved the snow. Victoria walked up beside me.
“If it keeps falling like that we won’t have Herbology or Care of Magical Creatures,” She said pressing her hand against the cold window.
“Good only Transfiguration and Arithmancy,” I said walking away from the window and headed to my trunk together my robes, I crawled back into my bed.
“I’m glad we’re staying for the break. You know I heard we basically have the run of the school,” Victoria said taking a
seat on her bed.
“Yeah, I heard that as well,” I said shutting the curtains and quickly changed. “It’s good you know, less likely to get into trouble with things.” I opened the curtains and climbed out of bed. I picked up my wand and placed it in my pocket.
“What’s that supposed to mean?” She asked folding her arms.
“Nothing, c’mon let’s go. I need to get some toast, before I
head up to the Arithmancy class room, and have that study
session. It’s the only time we’re allowed to ask questions for our midterm,” I said as I walked to the dormitory door.
We walked silently down to the Great Hall. Victoria seemed to be in deep thought, and I didn’t want to find out what it was. When we reached the Great Hall I accidentally bumped into Harry, as he was leaving.
“Sorry,” I blushed.
“Don’t worry about it,” He smiled redness showing in his
cheeks as well.
He placed his arm around Victoria as they walked to the table and sat down. Taking a napkin I put a pile of buttered toast on it. Telling Victoria I’d see her in McGonagall’s class I quickly ran out of the Great Hall.
Running up the Entrance Hall stairs I ate my toast, as I heard someone called out my name. Sighing, I turned around, and saw Draco running up the stairs toward me. I wiped the crumbs from my mouth and kissed him on the lips.
“Morning,” He said happily smiling at me.
“What put you in such a good mood,” I smiled as I chewed my
toast quickly.
“No reason, can’t I just be in a good mood to see my
girlfriend,” He said reaching out and grabbing my hand giving it a little squeeze.
“Yeah, I suppose you can, but sorry Draco I really need to go, we’re having a study session for Arithmancy about our test today and I really need to go,” I gave him another quick kiss “I’ll see you at lunch,”
Turning I ran up the last of the Entrance Hall stairs. When I reached the second floor I slowed down. Finishing up the last of my toast, I balled up the napkin and stuffed it into my robe pockets. The rest of the way I was in through. My mind was on the time I spent with Harry last night. Slowly it ran the plan of Draco and mine; I closed my eyes and shook away the thoughts. The purpose was to throw Harry and me together…but it felt wrong for some reason.
My thoughts were interrupted when I reached the class room, and heard the chatter of voices. I quickly took a seat across from the door, and the questions begin. Everyone asked questions about, how you would estimate your time of death, and approximating the time of your dreams by what you see in them.
I was happy when it was over; I had studied enough and thought I was well prepared. I rushed from my dormitory to Transfiguration class, out of breath and tired, I took my seat by Victoria. Surprisingly when class started McGonagall told us it was a free day. She didn’t feel like teaching on the day before break. Victoria and I took this opportunity to talk about our plans for break. And wondering who else we would be spending it with.
“Do you think we should ask McGonagall who is will be staying for break? To see if we really have the run of the school?” Victoria asked me quietly.
“Sure, but I’m not the one going to ask her,” Victoria smiled at me and I rolled my eyes “Come on then, if I have to ask her we’re doing it now.”
Victoria and I got out of our seats and walked toward McGonagall’s desk. She was reading a book, I waited a little and Victoria nudged me “Excuse me Professor.”
“Miss Caldwell, Miss Whiting, is there something I can help you two with?” She asked kindly putting her book down.
“Yes, we, I mean I-I was just wondering if you could possibly-maybe tell us who else is going to be staying this break, because, we’ve heard rumors, that it was just going to be
us.” I said quickly.
“It’s very true; there are only four people, if I remember correctly staying this winter break.”
“Four?” Victoria asked quickly “who are the other two.”
“Mr. Potter and Mr. Malfoy,” She said after some though, we grinned at each other as she cleared her throat “Now, I know you are-involved-with them, but I must stress you will be sleeping in your rightful places, no sneaking into to others dorms, or other common room,” She said sternly.
“Yes Professor,” We said in unison “We won’t.”
“”Very good,” She smiled at us “Now I must get back to my
books.”
We walked back to our table grinning at each other. For the rest of the class period we discussed what we were going to do during break. Mostly it was within the school rules, but that parts that were breaking rules we discussed in low voices so we wouldn’t be over heard.
“Now,” McGonagall started after the bell rang “All out door classes have been cancelled due to the amounting snow,”
Everyone cheered as we piled out of the door. I was happy we had the rest of the day free till after lunch. I wondered if I would be able to talk to Harry during the break, I smiled to myself as Victoria led me to the library. Reaching the library we went to our favorite table in the back, near the Dark Arts books.
“I can’t believe that there will only be four people during break here,” Victoria said quietly as we sat down.
“It is a bit weird,” I added running my fingers through my hair. “But I suppose it’s because of the war, parents not wanting kids to stay in school with what’s been happening lately.”
“Well how come your parents are letting you stay?” Victoria questioned.
“Honestly,” I sighed “My parents are going to America to visit some family and I really didn’t want to see that side of the family.”
“Ah,” Victoria said quietly looking up. A grin spread over her face as I looked the same place as her. Draco had just walked into the library. I shook my head.
“I have to go get a book for Defense Against The Dark Arts,” I said rolling my eyes as she nodded at me.
Quickly I walked away and went to the section of books that I needed, I picked out a book. Flipping through the pages I stepped out from behind the bookshelf on my way back to the table. Looking up I saw Draco sitting at the table with Victoria, holding her hand. Grinning, I moved behind the nearest bookshelf and listened.
I was dieing to know what they were talking about, from what I could hear, they were discussing break. I smiled at how civil they were acting toward each other.
“You know it’s not very nice to pry,” Someone whispered to me.
“God,” I jumped “Harry, give me another heart attack why
don’t you!”
“Sorry,” He laughed blushing “Just thought it would be nice to startle you.” He added quietly.
“Yes,” I smirked “And the benefit was what?”
“The look on you’re face was priceless,” He laughed again.
“Take a picture next time and show me,” I said lightly hitting
him on the chest “Now, quiet I’m trying to eavesdrop on a conversation here!” I hissed turning my attention back to
Draco and Victoria.
“What are they talking about,” He whispered into my ear.
“Well,” I said shivering slightly “it sounds like they are still talking about winter break.”
Harry put his hands lightly on my shoulder as we both leaned around the bookshelf, hiding in the shadows. We heard little of their conversation, but they were mostly talking about plans for Winter Break. Soon their conversation changed and went to the topic of the Hogesmed trip, a few weeks after Winter break. By the sound of it, they were looking to meet up.
“Harry,” I whispered as I turned around “I totally forgot about the Hogesmed trip! By the sound of it they are planning on
meeting up that day.”
“I can’t believe Malfoy has the guts to do that,” He said quietly grinning at me. “Ask Victoria out to lunch at Hogesmed when
you’re his girlfriend.”
“You know what we should do that?” I asked.
“What,” He said slowly looking at me.
“I think, if they go through with this, we should do something
that that,” I suggested.
“Yeah,” He said grinning at me brightly “We should do that it’s a perfect idea.” He glanced at his watch. “I wish I could stay with you more love, but I have to get to potions, I’ll see you at lunch.”
He gave me a quick kiss goodbye and took the long way out of the library so he wouldn’t be seen by Victoria and Draco. Smiling, I watched Harry go, shaking his image away, I looked back to see if Draco was gone. Sighing, he was finally gone, quickly I returned to the table acting as though nothing had happened. Smiling, I sat down.
“Did you get lost?” Victoria laughed.
“No,” I shook my head “I met someone in the Dark Arts
section and we talked, I lost track of the time.”
“Uh huh,” She smirked at me.
“It’s true,” I shrugged her off reading my book.
“So,” She said after a while “What do you want to do now that you have your book? We have no homework to do.”
“I don’t know you want to go back to the common room?” I asked looking around, hoping something would come up so we wouldn’t have to go back.”
“It’s almost lunch,” She sighed.
“So,” I said shutting my book quickly and gathering up my
things “You can be late to lunch for once you know.”
“I know,” She said quietly as she gathered her books.
